Editors Note: We dug

as former Champ Sam Peters faces Wladimir Klitchko
in rematch for the IBF/WBO heavyweight
titles on September 11 in Germany.
Sam
Peters Gets Past Lights Out Toney
By
Michael Amakor -September 3, 2006
In another cross roads
fight that helped showcase a dominant contender
aspiring to become the Supreme overlord of the
heavyweight division, NABF Champion Samuel “The
Nigerian Nightmare” Peters annexed the IBA title
from the rugged trash talking James "Lights Out"
Toney on September 2nd at the Staples Center in Los
Angeles in a fight featured on Showtime.
Here is how I called
the fight from the relative safety, and obscurity of
my living room -
Round 1: Peters lands
the first punch as Toney tries to bob and weave
forward and although Peters jabs sends Toney
slightly backward he is unable to catch the slippery
Toney flush. Peters lands some solid jabs, Toney
fires back but we are all amazed at how amazingly
quick Peters is, but Toney is quicker, near the end
of the round Peters misses several head shots as the
bobbing and weaving Toney corners him against the

WHO GETS THE TITLE SHOT FIRST

August 25, 2010
Poland's Tomacz Adamek 42-1 (27 KOs) the IBF
International and WBO North American Boxing
Organization heavyweight champion defended his
titles against the lack lustre challenge posed by
the lumbering six foot seven two hundred and sixty
one pound Michael Big Grant in front of his
enthusiastic and patriotic compatriots at the
Prudential Center in Newark on August 21
"I'm not looking to fight anybody under 220 pounds
anymore" Grant would later comment light heartedly
about his inability to catch Adamek who used
constant movement and angles to prevent Grant from
getting his feet planted to land one of his fight
ending haymakers.

Eye Injury
Forces Kessler Out Of Super Six World Boxing Classic
Press Release: Aug. 25, 2010)
Team Sauerland regrets
to inform the boxing world that WBC Super
Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler has been forced
to pull out of the Super Six World Boxing Classic
due to an eye injury. His title defence against
Allan Green in Herning, Denmark on September 25 has
been cancelled.
“This is the most
disappointing moment of my boxing career,” Kessler
said. “After defeating Carl Froch, I was on the way
to win the tournament, so pulling out now really
hurts. The eye problem has bothered me since the
beginning of the Super Six in my preparation for the
bout against Andre Ward. It also bothered me in the
fights against Ward and Froch, and in my training
for the fight against Green it has become
unbearable. I have consulted leading experts in
Denmark and Germany and they have advised ..more

BIG
CHALLENGE FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES
Read Preview-
Big Time
Challenge for Michael Grant
Michael Grant: "How do I see the fight
playing out? Okay let's play with this...He's (Adamek)
probably going to try to figure out the punching
power for the first 3 or 4 rounds and then make a
decision; 'Okay do I want to gamble or not'.
Meanwhile, while he's thinking about gambling I'm
already gonna be putting power out, dropping hands
on him. So then you're into a 'what should I do?'
moment. You got to make sure that those decisions
don't make you delayed so bad where you start
getting caught. And sometimes when you start getting
caught, and getting caught, it messes all the
decision making up and that can be very hurtful."
Tomasz Adamek:
"Sunday we'll talk about what's next, but Saturday
we have a job."
"Every fight is very
important. Only when you win, you go up. In boxing
you can never be second. My whole career I prepare
to be the best."
"I am very excited to
be back at Prudential Center. Every fight a couple
thousand more people come to see me. Everybody knows
me in NJ."
"I'm ready to fight. When I'm healthy I am very
quick, I am dangerous in the ring. I've been
training very hard for 11 weeks. Size is no bother
to me. I had 2 very good sparring partners. They
were tall too. Roger is a very good teacher and I am
learning everyday. I am ready."

SADDAM STOPS EDMONDS: Saddam Ali used his superior boxing skills, and accurate precision hooks to stun Julius Edmonds, knock him down a couple of times forcing the referee Ed Cotton to stop the contest at 1.41 minute of round 3.
A product of Brooklyn's
tough Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, junior
welterweight Sadam Ali will put his perfect 8-0
record on the line when he steps into the ring at
Newark's Prudential Center for the third time on
August 21st. In an eight-round welterweight bout,
Ali (8-0, 4 KOs) will fight Costa Rica's, Lenin
Arroyo (20-12-1, 4 KOs). This fight will be shown on
the PPV telecast.
Sadam Ali looked great
in his last fight, blowing out a walk-in styled,
non-puncher in Julias Edmonds. This time he goes in
with Arroyo, a 33-fight veteran who just a year ago,
went the limit with hard-hitting, unbeaten, Mike
Jones and then with James De La Rosa, also an
unbeaten welterweight prospect.
Ali, the first
Arab-American boxer ever to represent Team USA at
the Olympics, is an avid sports fan. This Wednesday,
he will throw the ceremonial first pitch at the
Brooklyn Cyclones vs. Staten Island game at MCU
Park, 1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th St, 7pm. The
Cyclones are the single A affiliate of the New York

It’s Personal - Alexander Says “Barratt Should Bring A Pillow, I’m Gonna Put Him To Sleep”
The already heated war of words, between Former English Super Featherweight Champion Ryan Barratt and Mark ‘The Flash’ Alexander ahead of their 11th September title clash on the Steve Goodwin Promoted ‘It’s Personal’ event at York Hall in London, is beginning to turn into a full blown fire-fight.
The fuse for the fiery verbal exchanges, was well and truly lit back in May this year, following Alexander publicly calling out Barratt on Steve Bunce’s BBC London Boxing Hour show.
Things got even more heated when both fighters appeared on the same card at Goodwin Promotions “Summer Fight Night Explosion” back on June 19th. During the post fight interviews both Barrett and Alexander made less than complimentary comments about the other. However the real flashpoint that day seems to have been with the interviewer asking Barratt if he would retire if ‘The Flash’ beat him on September 11th. Barratt angrily responded “If I can’t beat the likes of him I will retire. Boxing is my living and if I can’t beat a loudmouth like him then I will retire ...click here

FLASH QUOTES FROM GATEWAY TO GREATNESS WBC/IBF WELTERWEIGHT TITLE: ALEXANDER VS. KOTELNIK
DEVON ALEXANDER: (Prior to the decision announcement) “We good. I think I did enough to win. (After the decision announcement) It was an okay performance for me. I am my own toughest critic. Kotelnik is a tough fighter, an ex-world champion. Like I told everyone, I have an A, B and C plan. I have all three, so I can adjust to whatever anyone brings. Kotelnik trained hard. Give him credit. I listened to my trainer (Kevin Cunningham). He told me to box. (Leg issue) My left leg was going out on me in the final round. I had a cramp. I trained for 12 rounds and got the victory. That is what I came here to do.
(On the cut to his right eye) It was my first cut, but I fought through it like a world champion does. We knew Kotelnik would come in, in shape and he did.”
ANDRIY KOTELNIK: “I want the belt. I deserve it. If the fight were anywhere but here, I would be champion. I am speechless. I have no words to describe what happened. That guy has something that belongs to me.”
TRAINER STACEY MCKINLEY (to Kotelnik are the fight): “Everyone knows the fight was closer than that. In fact, you won the fight.”
IBF LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: CLOUD VS. JOHNSON
TAVORIS CLOUD: “I was head butted a lot. It was a heck of a fight. I have a lot of respect for Glen. I had the most effective punches. I hurt him worse. Glen Johnson said I was off balance. It is the same thing. You got hurt because I hit you. I was looking for a shot to get him out. He’s a slick fighter, so I didn’t get the KO. I definitely want to fight Chad Dawson. I was a little rusty tonight, so I will be better next time. I am a bad man. I going to be a unified world champion and undisputed champion.”
GLEN JOHNSON: “I made some adjustments throughout the fight. He was throwing a lot of punches, but I was blocking most of them. But the judges were counting them all. He caught me with a punch over there that I was not ready for. I was off balance and that was the only time I got caught.”
USNBC CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: COYNE VS. BROWNING
RYAN COYNE: “Browning was a tough guy. He thought he would have the power advantage, coming all the way down from heavyweight. The truth is, I will walk you down, lock you in the closet and defeat you. We did what we came to do. Win a championship and make my promoter, Don King, proud. This is a great fight town. Leon, Michael, Cory, Devon and all the rest. I am just proud to be following in their footsteps.”
IBF JUNIOR MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: SPINKS VS. BUNDRAGE
CORY SPINKS: “The referee stopped the fight, but I don’t know why. I totally disagree. He didn’t even hit me and I lost my title.”
TRAINER BUDDY MCGIRT: “Cory is a world champion and I think a world champion deserves the benefit of the doubt in that situation.”
REFEREE MARK NELSON: “Spinks had a staggered and dazed look. He shook his head (after the knockdown) as if to say, no. At the count of eight, he stepped backwards and I didn’t want his opponent to hit him again in that condition.”
CORNELIUS BUNDRAGE: “I knew I was going to get him. It was just a matter of time. I want Manny Pacquaio next. I am thankful. We have the best team in the land with Keith Lee, Emanuel Steward and Don King. I went after it. He was right there at the opening bell, so I went for it. I went right after him. It was just a matter of time.”
EMANUEL STEWARD: “It was a good fight. It could have been better. He was too anxious. He wasted a lot of energy. It has never been in this big of a fight. He is in a hot division and I am sure he will get a lot of offers.

Michael Grant Conference Call Quotes
Michael Grant quotes: "I only have 3 losses, those losses were learning stones for me, stepping stones. At this point in time when I step into this fight with Adamek, it's a great opportunity for me and I'm ready for it. I'm experienced; I've got a hell of a trainer; I'm having a hell of a camp. I mean everything is lining up. This fight is a very important opportunity to me and my family.
"I'm ready for this fight. More Experienced, more solid at this level right now. I've got a nice team, great training camp. I've got Eddie Mustafa and this is one of the times that I've trained the hardest. The only time I've trained harder than this is when I fought Lennox Lewis, so this is how I know that things are lining up for me to be victorious."
(How did Eddie change improve your style?) "I don't think Eddie changed my style. He's a hard knocks guy; he's from the old school. You gotta know Eddie, he's a good trainer, he's been there, he's been to the top, he's been a world champion himself. He's just basically using that talent, ability and experience to get me to the top cause he knows that his experience and my experience packed together means we basically have a hell of a combination. He hasn't changed my style but he knows what I have, and knows what he sees in me and what we put on the table in camp and he also sees a victorious ..more

The two will headline a night of world-class mixed martial arts and boxing, entitled "War at the Shore". "We've got two of Virginia's biggest fighting stars on one show and a solid undercard of MMA and boxing, which is a real treat for the fans in Virginia Beach," said an excited Garone. Mason Menard Wins UBO All America Title In front of a sell-out crowd, Local crowd-pleaser Mason Menard won the UBO All-America Lightweight title on Saturday night (July 31) at the Civic Center in Rayne, Louisiana when he beat Missouri state champion Robbie Cannon by technical knockout 37 seconds into the seventh round.
Menard got off to a slow start, but eventually took control and seemed to be landing the cleaner shots while Cannon was a bit busier. In round seven Menard connected with a left hook followed by a picture perfect right hand that send Cannon down. Cannon got to his feet, but referee Larry Berger felt he was unable to continue and waved the fight off.
Menard improved his record to 12-1 (10), and Cannon dropped to 12-6-1 (6). The successful show, billed as “The Heat Is On”, was promoted by Chad Broussard and his Boxncar Promotions.
With his new belt around his waist, Menard was happy but not entirely pleased with his own performance:
“It took me a little while to get started. Then Chad (Broussard) fired me up in the corner and told me to get my head in the game. I didn't start fighting until the seventh round like I should have in the first six rounds. I looked good throughout the fight, but that was not how I'm used to fighting", Menard told deepsouthboxing.com after the fight.
“I believe I won every round. He probably threw more punches than I did, but I was more accurate. I was dodging his punches. I hit him with some good shots, but I wasn't putting them together. I was hitting him with some good head and body shots, but not following up."
However, UBO USA Commissioner, and supervisor for the fight, Macke Roberts was impressed with both Menard and the surroundings in which the 21-year old performed, saying:
“Menard is talented, and can go a long way. He did well against Cannon, and he must be very popular because the place was packed and the atmosphere was amazing. I want to thank Chad Broussard and the Louisiana Boxing Commission, and of course also the boxers and all the fans, for making this fight a huge success. It was a pleasure to be a part

“WE ARE READY FOR A WAR IF MANNY WANTS TO GO THERE.” By John Martinez - August 1, 2010
On November 13, a fight fan’s dream will come to fruition. Former welterweight belt holder and banger, Antonio Margarito will take on current WBO welterweight strong man, Manny Pacquiaoin a junior middleweight showdown for the WBC bragging rights.
Margarito will enter this fight with not only a sizable advantage over his foe in physical stature, but also with a new teacher in former champion, Robert Garcia. With Garcia as his strategist,” Large Marge” will be armed with a trainer that won’t be so quick to utilize Antonio’s fan favorite style of “take three hits to give one” approach. “…before me, he (Margarito) just wanted to beat on somebody,” Garcia continued, he was like ‘wait till I hit you; you will feel me.’”
Garcia believes that his now infamous (reference the numerous accounts of Margarito’s loaded gloves and ultimate ban of him and his former trainer Javier Capetillo) pupil has learned and continues to grow under the trainer’s tutelage. “ Antonio has already learned so much under me. He’s doing things that he’s not done before like defense, ..click here

Faragon Wows Hometown Fans with TKO over Soto "Mikey Faragon will be a household name!" exclaims excited promoter
Fast-rising lightweight Michael "Baby Face" Faragon (12-0, 6 KOs) of Guilderland, New York, scored the most impressive victory of his blossoming professional career Friday night (July 30) at Pugnacious Promotions' Night of Future Champions event at the City Center in Saratoga Springs, New York.
On an event designed to showcase young prospects, Faragon made the most of the opportunity by dominating and finally stopping Pawtucket, Rhode Island's formidable Eddie Soto (now 12-2) at 0:45 of the fourth round. From the opening bell, Faragon was in total control, dominating until the action was mercifully stopped. He dropped Soto with a viscous body shot in round one and went on to drop him several more times throughout the bout with beautiful combinations to the body and head.
"That was truly the most impressive performance of Mikey's young career," said his promoter, Greg Cohen of The Empire Sports and Entertainment. "He is a star in the making and a huge fan favorite in the Capitol region of upstate New York."
As the freshly turned 23-year-old matures, his punching power is becoming an important factor in his success. After going the distance four consecutive times to begin his career, Faragon has now stopped six out of his last eight opponents.
"He is the total package and I can't wait for him to be seen on a national TV network," continued Cohen. "There is zero doubt in my mind that the national audience will embrace Mikey in the same fashion as his hometown. In short order, Mikey Faragon will be a household name!"
