Michael Grant did not attend the press conference because he is training in Las Vegas, but was present via telephone. Nick Garone, Grant's manager, spoke for Michael Grant. "You are going to see that Michael Grant is prepared. He walks the walk, talks the talk as far as being a professional. He's been away from the spotlight for quite a long time and we believe that's a good thing. Michael is well preserved. He is 37 next week and in world heavyweights that's a good age, it's a seasoned age. August 21st will be a tremendous opportunity for us to be named on the short list of guys like Klitschko and Valuev." Garone added, "We have the utmost respect for Tomasz Adamek, but honestly we see a win as a way to prolong Michael's career and give him an opportunity to get back on the world wide stage."..click here

Beibut Shumenov Boxing’s Most Mysterious World Champion
Press Release: July 22, 2010
If not for a hand injury suffered in the opening round of the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece, reigning WBA and IBA Light Heavyweight Champion Beibut Shumenov certainly would be much better known today by North American boxing fans, especially if he advanced to the medal rounds and fought eventual gold-medal winner Andre Ward.
Shumenov (9-1, 6 KOs), who represented his native Kazakhstan at the Olympics, won his opening bout against Poland’s Aleksy Kuziemsky (37-22), who is 19-1 as a pro, before being hampered by his damaged hand and consequently eliminated in the round of 16 by Turkey’s Ihsan Yildorim Tarham (27-19).
In a relatively short time, though, Shumenov has ascended to the top of the light heavyweight division as a pro, using an accelerated approach by fighting and defeating three world champions Montell Griffin, Byron Mitchell and Gabriel Campillo) and another world title challenger (Epifanio Mendoza) in his first 10 fights. Now fighting out of Las Vegas, Beibut still remains a mysterious prize fighter in the country he now .click here

Juan Carlos "Black Panther" Gomez on Universum card
Press Release: 2010-07-21 11:04 AM
Universum Box-Promotion has announced that former WBC cruiserweight champion Juan Carlos Gomez (47-2, 36 KOs) will fight on their big July 31 card in Hamburg. It will be “The Black Panther’s” first bout under the Universum banner in five years. “We are delighted for Juan,” said promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl. “He was with us all those years and always remained connected. I believe in him. He can tear up the heavyweight division once again. He only has two defeats. Although he’s 36 years old, look at 39-year-old Vitali Klitschko and you can see how long you can still get maximum performance. He just has to want it. He must work closely with our training diagnostician. Everything will checked out. This is no picnic for Juan. It’s in his hands!”
Gomez stated, “I had some problems with my old promoter, so I called my first promoter who made me a world champion. Today I can appreciate how Peter Kohl was always fair to me. Now I’ll be returning to my boxing home. I’m glad that he gave me another chance and I can box on July 31. I’ll be diligent and won’t disappoint my fans. I still want to fight the best. After all, I have less defeats than Wladimir Klitschko…” Gomez will be trained by Artur Grigorian, who stated, “Juan and I have a lot to to, but we’ll also have a lot of fun. His first words in the gym were ‘It’s once again Showtime!’ Great! We’re glad he’s home.” Gomez’ opponent will be named in the coming days.

Abell Gets Redemption; Dismantles Lyons in Four!
Press Release: July 19, 2010: Read: Abell out for Revenge against Lyons !
Joey “Minnesota Ice” Abell waited four years to get another crack at Arron Lyons and knew he had to look sensational when the two met last Saturday at the St. Paul Armory in St. Paul, MN.
In 2006, Lyons shockingly TKO’ed Abell inside of one round when the latter was one of the hottest heavyweight prospects on the planet. Aside from scoring a jaw dropping stoppage, Lyons blatantly disrespected the Coon Rapids native during post fight interviews.
Lyons once again stepped into the ring with an array of confidence and little respect for his opponent. But this time around, Lyons couldn’t put his money where his mouth is.
Abell entered the squared circle in supreme condition and was in complete control from the opening bell. The hard hitting Abell tagged the Gulfport , MS based Lyons with peppering jabs and flush straight left hands during the first. The local favorite dominated the next two stanzas, fighting through desperate rough house tactics by Lyons , before silencing him up for good.
In the very next frame, Abell landed a hard right hand that opened a huge cut under Lyons ’ left eye. The referee quickly took Lyons to the ringside physician, who ruled he could not continue. Abell was awarded a TKO 52 seconds into the fourth and ultimately had the last laugh.
“It was great to finally shut this guy up,” Abell said after the fight. “He was talking a lot of trash since he upset me a few years back, but now I think there is no doubt in anybody’s mind that his victory was a fluke.”
With the moral importance of defeating Lyons of the way, Promoter Tony Grygelko envisions big picture success for Abell.
“Joey has had some ups and downs but we are ready to take on any of the top heavyweight,” said Grygelko, a former prizefighter himself. “He is one of the hardest pound for pound punchers on the planet and is eager to prove that he can hang with the top flight fighters. All he needs is a fair opportunity.”

Lyons was expected to be another opponent the Coon Rapids native would walk right through, but Abell’s night it wasn’t. The New Mexico product scored a shocking first round stoppage, leaving the crowd at Philadelphia ’s Legendary Blue Horizon in disbelief. The defeat was also disheartening for Abell and an experience he still remembers to this day.

D.S.: How did you get involved with the sport of boxing?
E.G.: That’s a funny story, Dave. I never wanted to become a boxer. I wanted to be a baseball player. I’m from the Virgin Islands. My mother moved to New York City and I followed. When I was a teenager, my cousin got me a job at a factory. One hot day, I took off my shirt. Howard Albert, the factory owner, stared at me and was impressed with my physique and asked if I ever boxed before. I thought he was crazy. He was a big boxing fan. He brought me over to a P.A.L. gym and introduced me to Gil Clancy. Gil and ..continue

10-round main event against two-time heavyweight champion Hasim "The
Rock" Rahman at "The Rock Returns" event on June 19 at the Niagara Falls

getting hit hard is completely painless.

Sylvester defends IBF
Middleweight Title, Cunningham wins IBF Cruiserweight Belt
Press Release: June 4, 2010
Sebastian Sylvester defended his IBF Middleweight Title on Saturday
night in Neubrandenburg when he and mandatory challenger Roman Karmazin
settled for a draw in front of a wild crowd of 4.500 fans. After 12
close rounds, the scores were 118-111, 111-117 and 114-114. “I am
pleased to have defended my title,” Sylvester said. “It was a close, a
tough fight. Although Karmazin was more active, I landed the clearer
shots. I think I was up a few rounds.”
Sylvester, whose strong defence absorbed
most of Karmazin´s punches, turned it on in the later rounds when he
punished his opponent with one-two combinations. “Sebastian really
connected well later on and the fight was close to being stopped in the
11th,” coach Karsten Rower said. “If Sebastian had landed one or two
more punches then, he could have stopped him. Karmazin was a tough
opponent with a higher work-rate, but Sebastian landed the better shots
and also worked well to the body.”
The 37-year-old Russian, whose left eye was
badly swollen, felt he had won the fight. “It was a close encounter,” he
said. “I had problems to find my rhythm in the first round because I got
a thumb into my eye early. In round six I had problems with my liver so
I really had to hang in there between rounds six and ten not to lose my
focus. I felt I threw more punches and should have won the fight.”
Promoter Kalle Sauerland disagreed: “If you look into the two fighters´
faces, you know who won – Sebastian is almost unmarked, while Karmazin´s
face is swollen. It was an exciting fight on a very high level.
Congratulations to both men.”

Cunningham Clinches IBF
Cruiserweight Title
Press Release: June 4, 2010
In the co-featured main event, Steve
Cunningham made a winning debut for Team Sauerland as he clinched the
vacant IBF Cruiserweight Title thanks to a fifth-round TKO victory over
Troy Ross. Cunningham controlled the center of the ring from the first
second on, cleverly keeping his opponent at bay with his strong left
jab. He landed a big left in the first round and not soon after Ross´
face was swollen. The pattern remained the same, with Cunningham
dominating and landing good shots before Ross scored a knock-down with a
big left in the fourth. However, Cunningham responded with a powerful
punch that badly cut Ross below his left eye. The ring doctor advised
the referee to stop the fight after one second of the fifth round
because of a vertically cut eyelid. Since the injury was caused by a
punch, as the referee ruled, Cunningham won by TKO. After the fight, the
supervisor confirmed the referee’s decision. Ross will undergo surgery
today before flying home. “We wish him all the best and a speedy
recovery,” Team Sauerland General Manager Chris Meyer said. “It was a
high-class fight and we are thrilled to have added another champion to
our line-up. Steve Cunningham is a great fighter with a great team.”
Cunningham thanked his entire team for
their great support. “It is great to be a champion again,” he said. “We
have worked so hard and I want to thank my whole team and of course Team
Sauerland who made this possible. I knew Ross would cut easily and that
he could not beat me. The plan was to keep touching him and hit him hard
later on. I am very happy. My goal is to become the best cruiserweight
in the history of boxing.”
Promoter Kalle Sauerland congratulated him
on a strong performance. “That was USS Cunningham at his very best,” he
said. “He has a great team behind him. He has now defeated all three
reigning cruiserweight champions. After the tremendous success of the
Super Six tournament, we will be trying to put together something
similar in this exciting division. We got WBO Champion Marco Huck under
contract so we have a lot of options. I can promise fight fans all over
the world that the best will be fighting the best at cruiserweight, too.
We will try to sort out the details in the next couple of weeks.”
On the undercard, Yoan Pablo Hernandez
cruised to an uncontested points victory over Zack Page. |

Adamek - Grant Fight Confirmed for August 21st
Press Release: May
28, 2010
Tomasz Adamek, the IBF International Heavyweight and NABO Heavyweight Champion, returns to Newark’s Prudential Center on Saturday, August 21st when he takes on Michael Grant as part of the acclaimed “Brick City Boxing Series.” Both titles are on the line. A native of Gilowice, Poland, now fighting out of Jersey City, Adamek has drawn record crowds to Newark’s world class venue during the past year and a half. He returns in August following a successful trip to Ontario, California, where he outclassed highly rated Chris Arreola in front of Arreola’s hometown fans.
Standing a full 6’7” with a wingspan of 86”, Grant (46-3, 34 KO's) is, by far, the biggest opponent Adamek (41-1, 27 KO’s) has ever faced as he continues his quest to add the World Heavyweight Championship to his World Light Heavyweight and World Cruiserweight titles. A former IBC/NABF champ, Grant has been on an 8 bout winning streak since 2003 when he was bested by then undefeated Dominick Guinn. In his last bout on May 7th,.....click here |

This Saturday three world titles will be contested on two continents as part of a packed day of boxing on www.gofightlive.tv
The action kicks off Saturday at 2:30 pm eastern time with Vitali Klitscchko defending the coveted WBC Heavyweight champion against Albert Sosnowki.
Klitshcko has been nothing short of perfect since his return to the ring in 2008 after a four year absence. He reclaimed the WBC crown in his first fight back he dominated and eventually stopped reigning champion Samuel Peter. He then stopped former cruiserweight king Juan Carlos Gomez in nine and then undefeated U.S. hopeful Chris Arreola in ten. In his last bout, Klitschko again dominated an American challenger in Kevin Johnson as Klitschko basically took every second of every round against the boastful Johnson. Klitshcko, 39-2 with thirty-seven knockouts is generally regarded as the number-two ranked Heavyweight in the world behind his brother Wladimir who is the Recognized champion.
Sosnowski had a very gaudy record of 45-2-1 with twenty-seven knockouts and from all indications is in incredible shape as many have not given this huge underdog a chance.
The native of the United Kingdom received this opportunity mainly on the strength of going 2-0-1 in his last three bouts which included a eighth round knockout over former Klitshcko victim Danny Williams. In his last bout, Sosnowski won the European Heavyweight championship with a twelve round unanimous decision over Paolo Vidoz.
A two fight undercard will be part of the broadcast as former Cruiserweight title challenger Jonathon Banks (24-1-1, 17 KO's) will take on Jason Gavern (19-7-3, 8 KO's) for the NABF Heavyweight title. Rounding out the card will be cruiserweight battle between undefeated Nenad Borovcanin (25-0, 18 KO's) battling Raymond Ochieng (21-10-3, 17 KO's)

Zsolt Bedak: 'Our training has been strong (he is trained by former world champion Artur Grigorian) and I have come here to take the title. We've come to put on a great show and go home with a victory.'
Rocky Martinez: 'All I want is the day of the fight to come because I'm in tremendous shape and I want to defend the title again. We are prepared for whatever my opponent brings (Gonzalo) Mungia has been talking a lot. He has a mouth but everything will come out in the ring.'

But Beranza wasn't about to go quietly and in the 6th round, Kennedy's right eye began to swell and then close. Beranza took full advantage and brought himself back into this title fight. Despite eye problems, Kennedy stood and traded with Beranza much to the delight of a near sellout crowd. In the final 2 rounds, fans saw an all out war by both men in an effort to seize the victory.
In the end, would it be Kennedy who stayed undefeated or did Beranza steal the later rounds and the win to earn the USBA Title? Find out by logging in to GoFightLive.tv and see for yourself!

THE DONNELL HOLMES ULTIMATUM
Donnell Holmes would like the World
to know the reason I haven't gotten
my big fight, yet, is because all
these Bums are running and continue
to fight each other.
I did
get the fight with Brian "The Bitch"
Minto last Aug 09, but he was told
to quit after the 4th round by
Freddy Cock Roach. He was clearly
cut by a left jab, and the video
tape showed it. It was supposed to
be overturned by the PA Boxing
Commision. But, after he appealed
and it went to court, he got the
home cooking from the safety
blanket, and I got the Shaft.
I recently saw on boxrec where I was
listed to face Siarhei Liakhovich
July 23, 2010. Noone has called me
or anyone representing me about this
fight. I want the World to see you
are falsely using my name to
advertise your fight. Why not call
me and make the fight? I hope the
World can see why I'm pissed, I
can't get a break, but these cowards
use my name to promote their fights
against other fighters. So why not
make it happen? Instead of falsely
putting my name down, call me out.
How can you use my name, I call you

King Khan Invades New York!
Stops Malignaggi in Eleven
By George Hanson Jr., Esq.
Saturday, May 15, 2010 - Picture by Howard Schatz
Over 21 years (1206-1227) Genghis Khan,
considered the father of modern day Mongolia, and his horsemen conquered
a larger area and population than the Romans did in over four centuries.
His Mongol Empire ran from Northern China to the Afghan border, Siberia
to Tibet and Turkey to Russia—uniting the nomadic tribes of Northeastern
Asia. Khan revolutionized the social structure and reformed traditional
laws. Steeped in the concept of meritocracy and religious tolerance, the
Mongol Empire was one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse
empires in history. Many tribes were Buddhist, Muslim, Shamanist or
Christian because religion was a personal concept. These fundamental
principles would not become common practice in Europe until centuries
later. Maybe it is only coincidence that Khan and his Mongol hordes
invaded Punjab in 1221 because 789 years later another Khan is unifying
people of all races, religions and ethnicities. Amir “King” Khan, born
and raised in England, the grandson of Pakistani immigrants, has

Ortiz Out Boxes Campbell
By
George Hanson Jr., Esq: Saturday, May 15, 2010
In
the 10-round co-main event junior-welterweight
“Vicious” Victor Ortiz (26 wins – 2 losses – 1 draw
– 21 kos) of Ventura, California used effective
lateral movement and out boxed former IBF & WBO
lightweight champion Nate “The Galaxy Warrior”
Campbell (33 wins – 5 losses – 1 draw – 25 kos) of
Jacksonville, Florida capturing a unanimous decision
by scores of 100-89 twice and 99-90.
The relentless Campbell came forward but was unable
to corner the elusive Ortiz who performed like a
matador by sidestepping his advances. In the opening
round Ortiz was credited with a knockdown which
appeared to be caused by a push instead of a punch
much to the dismay of the complaining Campbell.
Ortiz pitched a shutout on two of the judges’
scorecards as he danced, side-stepped and parried
his opponent, oftentimes stopping on a dime to
unload from his explosive arsenal before he
disappeared to another part of the ring. However,

Christophe Karagoz in the sixth

throughout, cleverly firing in power
punches to body and head. In the

right and then again with a one-two
combination. When Karagoz was in
trouble again, the referee waved the
bout off. “It is great to be back,”
Markussen said. “I had a lot to
prove and I am very happy about the
outcome. It felt great to be boxing

PUNCHIN AT THE PARADISE RESULTS
Press
Release: May 15, 2010
Tonight at the
Paradise Theater in the Bronx, Golden Boy
Promotions and Star Boxing presented action
packed six bout card, featuring some of the
hottest prospects in boxing. The card, which
was the tenth installment of the popular "Punchin
at the Paradise" fight series, was headlined
by highly regarded lightweight prospect,
Adrien "The Problem" Broner taking on Rafael
Lora.
Broner wasted
no time in showing why he is one of the
hottest up and coming prospects in all of
boxing, as he began firing crisp
combinations at Lora. Broner showed he has
good power in both hands as he scored with
vicious shots throughout the first round.
Just as the first round was coming to a
close, Broner landed a beautiful right, left
combination that sent Lora down hard. The
bell sounded to end the round but Lora rose
on very shaky legs. The referee took a hard
look at Lora, but it was obvious he was in
no condition to continue and waved the
contest off. It was a very impressive
showing for Broner, who improved his stellar
record to 15-0, 12KO's. With the loss Lora
dropped to 11-3, 5KO's.

DZINZIRUK DEFENDS WBO 154-POUND CROWN
Press Release: May 14, 2010 - Watch
Replay May 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHO 2
World Boxing
Organization (WBO) Junior Middleweight Champ
Sergiy Dzinziruk made the fifth defense of
his title look easy with a dominating 10th
round TKO of previously once-beaten
challenger Daniel Dawson in the main event
of ShoBox: The New Generation Friday night
on SHOWTIMEm the Chumash Resort Casino
in Santa Ynez , Calif.
Unbeaten
prospect Vernon Paris narrowly defeated the
tough Juan Santiago in Friday’s co-feature
with an eight-round split decision victory,
scored 77-74 Santiago , 76-75 Paris , twice.
Dzinziruk, a
superstar in Europe, was more than
impressive in his U.S. debut, dominating the
fight from the opening bell with his
relentless jab. Dzinziruk (36-0, 24 KOs), of
Hamburg, Germany, fought safely in the
opening rounds and established the jab
before becoming more aggressive and
punishing against the outmatched,
Australian-born Dawson (34-2, 24 KOs).
Dzinziruk
certainly didn’t look like a fighter who was
making his first defense in more than 17
months. The 34-year-old peppered the clearly
defenseless Dawson , 32, with combos and
jabs in the later rounds, forcing referee
Jose Cobain to stop the fight at 2:12 of the
10th round.
“My plan was to
use the jab to make him tired and then go to
the other punches,” Dzinziruk said. “We saw
some tapes of him and knew the early rounds
would be tough. Our plan was to apply more
pressure in the later rounds and finish him.
We’d had a long layoff and we wanted to take
it easy in the beginning.
“Whatever we
planned, it worked out. I feel good about my
performance, especially after the long
layoff.
I wanted to please the American fans, and I
think I did. Now, I want to take collect a
few more belts and take on the other (154
pound) champions.”

Lightweight Championship Pits Moses & Acosta
On May 29 in Windhoek, Namibia
Undefeated World Boxing

17 KOs) will defend his title in the capital city of
his native Namibia on May 29 in a showdown against
WBA interim lightweight champion Miguel Acosta
(26-3-2, 20 KOs).
Don King Productions won the right to promote the
match in a WBA purse bid of $150,000 and will
present the event in association with Namibia-based
Nestor Sunshine Promotions. Per WBA rules, the
champion will received 55% of the purse and the
interim champion 45%.
Moses, who was born in Okapya and now resides in
Windhoek, traveled to Japan in 2008 and defeated
then-champion Yusuke Kobori to win the WBA
lightweight crown.
He successfully defended the title on July 25 at
the Winkhoek Country Club Resort when he won a
unanimous decision over Takehiro Shimada.
Acosta, from Caracas, Venezuela, won the WBA
interim lightweight title fighting on the same
night—July 25—in Grand Mayan, Mexico, where he
stopped previously undefeated Urbano Antillion in
round nine. He now stands as mandatory challenger to
the champion.
“This is a dream come true for me,” Acosta said
from Venezuela. “At one point, I thought this fight
would happen in my home country. I knew Moses was
willing to fight me here, so that’s why I’m willing
to go to fight him in his hometown. I don’t care
where the fight is as I plan to prove I am a true
world champion.”
Acosta lost three consecutive fights early in his
career, but he has not lost since 2003 and is
currently riding an impressive 17-fight winning
streak.

for the vacant IBF Cruiserweight Title in

is a strong opponent. I want to thank his management
– namely Yvon Michel and Jeff Wald – to make this
fight happen in a very short period of time. It will

Earlier this week, Team Sauerland announced the
signing of Cunningham. “He is a fantastic fighter,”
Meyer added. “I expect him to beat Ross. It would

MAYWEATHER BEATS MOSLEY
MAYWEATHER VS. MOSLEY POST-FIGHT
QUOTES
FLOYD
MAYWEATHER: "If Manny Pacquaio
wants to fight, it is not hard to
find me. We were going to make the
fight a couple of months back but it
didn't happen. I take my hat off to
Mosley. He had problems in the past
but he's a warrior. He took the
blood and urine tests. I just want
everyone to be on an even playing
field. If every athlete is clean in
the sport of boxing, take the test.
If Manny Pacquaio takes the blood
and urine tests, we can fight. If he
doesn't, we won't make the fight.
"After
a while I think Mosley went into
survival mode. All he was trying to
do was survive.

different. Everyone was talking
about how Mosley is stronger, how
Mosley is faster. I rocked him more

that I want to see do well.

hurt real bad when I hit him with
that shot.
"I
think after I caught him with that
big right hand I opened up to much
and played into his hands. I was too
tight. When I hit him with the big
right hand, I thought I was going to
get the knockout.
"He
started to avoid the punches. He did
surprise me. Once I tried to get my
timing back, I couldn't adjust and
he did. I am happy I took the fight.
He is a true champion. Now you will
see him and Manny, if Manny takes
the blood test.
"I will go back home and look at the
tape, take it slow when I get home
and we'll see what happens."

Marco
“Captain” Huck (29-1, 22 KOs) made a
successful third defence of his WBO
Cruiserweight Title when he stopped
Brian “The Beast” Minto (34-4, 21
KOs) in the tenth round of their
clash in Oldenburg, Germany.
Fighting in front of a boisterous
crowd of 3,500 fans, Huck landed his
trademark power punches in every
round. His huge right did most of
the damage, knocking Minto down in
the third and fifth round. But the
American refused to give up. He hung
in and fought back – only for Huck
to land even more punches. The
25-year-old German hammered in huge
combinations to body and head before
another right sent Minto down again
the ninth. He came back to his feet
but his corner ultimately decided he
had taken enough punishment. “It was
a spectacular fight and I really
take my hat off to Minto,” Huck
said. “I was surprised how many
shots he could take. I knocked him
down three times but he refused to
give up.....click

Don King Posts $1 Million Bond in
Cash
Don King Wins an Emergency Court
Injunction Over Rival Promoter
Today, But He Must Post a Bond
Within 2 Hours; He Pays in Cash
After
winning an emergency injunction this
afternoon over a rival promoter and
one of his fighters that was
attempting to participate tonight in
a Mixed Martial Arts match in
Fayetteville, N.C., Don King had one
last hurdle to clear: Florida state
law required him to post a bond that
Broward County Circuit Court Judge
Marc H. Gold determined at $1
million. And he had to do it within
two hours.
With
most businesses that would help him
conduct a transaction of this
magnitude not operating on a
Saturday, King departed the Ft.
Lauderdale courthouse and returned
prior to the deadline to present the
judge with two duffel bags
containing $1 million in cash to
fulfill his obligation to the court.
“I felt
like I was Clint Eastwood in a
movie, speeding down the highway
with a fistful of dollars,” the
78-year-old King said after
successfully posting the bond.
King’s
attorneys, Robert Zarco and Alex
Brito of the Miami-based law firm
Zarco, Einhorn, Salkowski & Brito,
argued the case successfully.
“Pursuant to the Judge’s Order
issued this afternoon, the MMA
promoter in question and Ricardo
Mayorga are specifically ordered by
the court from proceeding with
tonight’s previously announced main
event appearance by Mayorga in
Fayetteville, North Carolina,” Zarco
said.
The MMA
promoters would be wise to heed the
words spoken by Judge Gold from his
bench when told that the event in
Fayetteville may go on regardless of
his decision.
“If my orders are disobeyed, there
will be serious sanctions from this
court,” Gold said.
