Celebrity Boxing – Nan Sanction vs. Sanction Fights

Q. Good Morning JacBoxer! You accompanied me to the Celebrity Boxing Event that was held on August 6, 2010 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Can you tell me what was your impression that night?
A. Well, it was my first time going to the celebrity boxing. It was promoted by Damon Feldman from Philadelphia, my man, ya know. It was a good show. I was looking forward to seeing Rodney King and some female entertainment star. I didn’t see them but at the end of the day it was still a good show.
Q. How does non sanction boxing differ from sanction boxing in your opinion?
A. Sanction boxing is when the state athletic commission has to look at the two fighters, the two boxers and state that you weigh the same weight and they look at your medicals and they have to make sure that you are medically fit. They can’t have someone who is sick fighting a guy who is not sick because the other guy can get killed. That is why it’s called a sanction fight. Sanctioned fights has to look into everything to make sure everything is straight so there will not be any accidents. Non sanction fight is when you put together an exhibition. Even if you put together an exhibition you are suppose to have some sort of insurance just incase someone gets injured cause you would be responsible if someone gets hurt. So in sanctioned fights the state takes care of it. So even if anything goes wrong in the state that they are sanction if they accept the fight to go on they are responsible and they can get into a law suit. In a non sanction fight the promoter and venue is solely responsible if anything goes wrong.
Q. Since Celebrity Boxing is a form of entertainment were you entertained that night?
A. Yes I was entertained. I also saw some wrestling and a little bit of Mauh Thai. I also saw some competitors that were wearing these big gloves that I’ve never seen in the ring before in my life. Someone also had a mask on that night. It was great entertainment. Damon is doing a great thing.
Q. You mentioned to me that this is the first time that you saw those different gloves in the ring. Can you tell me a little bit about those different sized gloves that you saw. Where they sanctioned sized gloves.
A. Well I saw two ladies fighting with these two different gloves. I can’t even describe how big they were. I’ve never seen these gloves before. They were boxing with these gloves but you can tell they were uncomfortable. But like I said it was all about entertainment. They were definitely not sanction gloves.
Q. Which two Celebrities would you like to see in the ring to fight?
A. WOW! Lets see the last time we spoke I believe you were at a Basketball Hall of Fame Ceremony. You were telling me Charles Barkley was there. He was in a Celebrity Boxing event. I don’t know who promoted him but I remember watching it. Their are a few people I’d like to see. Shaquielle O’Niel went in the ring and fought someone. But cause he’s a big guypeople think he’d knock out Sugar Shane Mosley. Just because ya big doesn’t mean that you’ll win. There are a lot of people I’d like to see. I would really like to see Shaquielle O’Niel and Charles Barkley in the ring. Damon should make this happen. That would be a great fight. Rodney King is one of them. He’s a big guy I’d like to see what he can do. I saw Joey Budafuco fighting some lady a few years ago. It’s all about entertainment. I’d like to see Obama in the ring.
Q. What about a match between one promoter vs. another promoter? Say you and Damon.
A. NO! The fight I really want to see is Don King vs. Bob Arum in the ring with the gloves on. That’s the fight I want to see.
Q. Would you attend another Celebrity Boxing event?
A. Yes its entertainment. Why not. I like entertainment. I’m into entertainment and promotions, boxing or any type of sports so people can have fun. So they feel like they are having fun. They feel good to be alive. Some people right now wish they would die. It’s all about living. I like to entertain people. I’m not too much of a wrestling fan because I’m more into boxing. Its entertainment but Boxing is real some people are getting hurt and land into the hospital or get beat up or are under contract to beat people up. In wrestling you have to know how to land so you don’t get hurt.
Q. How would you describe the physical appearance of the competitors. Were they evenly matched?
A. I don’t know who the matchmaker was but I think Damon did a great job with the talent.

As in September, I once again ran out of gas in the 10th & 11th championship rounds of October & November with this column, but I recovered to complete them and will unleash a few more flurries to close out the 12th and final round.
In the first week of October, Hassan N’Dam won a UD over Curtis Stevens in an eliminator for the right to challenge Jermaine Taylor who defeated aging Sam Soliman to regain the IBF Middleweight title. How Taylor even earned this title shot is another story altogether, but it is all irrelevant as he is now the champion. However he will not have too much time to savor his victory as he has assault and battery charges pending against him and an upcoming court fight that may turn out to be the toughest fight of his life, just when things started to look up for him in boxing, we wish him luck.
