[Ringside by Pattee Mak – September 12, 2015] Premier Boxing Champions presented live pro boing at Foxwoods Resort and Casino. The Main Event consisted of super middleweights Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin of Brooklyn, New York vs. Michael Zerafa of Melbourne, Australia. The last time I seen Quillin in person he was on the set of Vinny Paz’s movie, “Bleed for This”. Round 1 both fighters landing some impressive shots in the round. Round 2 Quillin’s timing his shots. Twice landing lefts on the Pretty boy. Round 4 Quillin lands 2 on beautiful shots on Zerafa. The pace is starting to quickly pick up then slow down. Quillin connects with a left jab Round 5 Quillin and Zerafa are picking up the pace while Quillin lands more lefts and rights on Zerafa is counterpunching, Quillin then charges after Zerafa and back Zerafa up against the ropes and lands a straight right on Zerafa and immediately drops him to the canvas as everyone rushes into the ring at1:06 the KO victory goes to Quillin. Afterwards ringside Danny Jacobs was called out by Quillin. According to Lou DiBella this fight should be in December of this year.
Super Welterweights: Cornelius “K-9” Bundrage of Detroit, Michigan vs. Jermall “Hitman” Charlo of Houston, Texas. Round 1 Bundrage gets dropped by an overhand right. Round 2 Charlo is on a role and connects with a left on Bundrage and gets the count again. Round 3 Charlo backs up Bundrage into the corner and throws combinations on Bundrage and gets another knockdown as the fight continues and Charlo is breaking down Bundrage even more as Charlo’s backed up Bundrage to the neutral corner and Charlo connects with a left and a right and drops Bundrage once more at 2:33 of round 3 of 12. The referee had enough and stops the bout. Charlo gets the TKO victory and the IFB World Super welterweight title and increased his record to 22-0 and Bundrage decreased to 34-6.
Super Bantamweight and local favorite Shelly “Shelito’s Way” Vincent of neighboring New London, Connecticut vs. Brittany Cruz of Thornton, Colorado. Cruz had a height difference of about 7 inches. Shelly being the busier of the two fighters, Jabbing her way into the rounds. Cruz landing a few upper cuts. During round 6 Shelly lands an overhand right on Cruz but couldn’t finish her off during the round. After 8 rounds with no one dropping to the canvas it goes to the judges scorecard of 79-73; 79-73 and 80-72 all in favor of Shelly “Shelito’s Way” Vincent by UD. Shelly keeps her perfect record of 15-0 and Cruz 10-7-2.
Light Heavyweights: “Sir” Marcus Browne of Staten Island, NY vs. Gabriel Campillo of Madrid, Spain. WOW Brown was on a role. During round 1 of 10 Brown lands a left then continues on and then drops Campillo after a left and right to the body. The referee stops the bout at 55 seconds Brown increases to 16-0 and Campillo decreases to 25-8-1.
Super Featherweights: Titus Williams of Elmont, New York vs. Benjamin Burgos of New York, New York. What a quick fight. Get in, get out. During round 1 of 4 Williams’s lands a right cross on Burgos at 1:48 of the round driving him to the canvas and getting that lovely KO win. Williams increases to 2-0 and Burgos 2-13-1.
Bantamweights: Antonio “Another” Russell of Washington, DC vs. Manuel Robalcava of Tamaulipas, Mexico. Russell is a little jack rabbit in the ring. During round 2 of 6, Russell backed up Robalcava against the ropes and unleased a combination of lefts and rights dropping him to a knee the referee immediately jumped in and called a halt to the bout at 1:26. Russell getting the KO increases to 4-0, 3 kos (I’d like to see more of Russell) and Rubalcaya decreases to 2-15.
Super Featherweights: Gary Stark, Jr. of Staten Island, New York vs. Anthony Napunyi of Canal Point, Florida. After 6 rounds with no drops to the canvas and Stark controlling the rounds the Judges scored the card 58-56; 58-56 and 59-55 all for Starks winner by UD.
Super Featherweights: Bryant “Pee Wee” Cruz from Port Chester, NY vs. Jonathan Perez of Columbia. Cruz brought his cheering squad with him and I thought was more competitive in favor of Perez than the judges score of 77-75; 79-73 and 80-72 in favor of Cruz.
Middleweights: Hugo Centeno, Jr. of Oxnard, Cali vs. Lukas Maciec, Lublin, Poland. Centeno the busy of the two fighters won the UD after 8 rounds. The judges scored it 79-73; 79-73 and 78-74 in favor of Centeno.

As in September, I once again ran out of gas in the 10th & 11th championship rounds of October & November with this column, but I recovered to complete them and will unleash a few more flurries to close out the 12th and final round.
In the first week of October, Hassan N’Dam won a UD over Curtis Stevens in an eliminator for the right to challenge Jermaine Taylor who defeated aging Sam Soliman to regain the IBF Middleweight title. How Taylor even earned this title shot is another story altogether, but it is all irrelevant as he is now the champion. However he will not have too much time to savor his victory as he has assault and battery charges pending against him and an upcoming court fight that may turn out to be the toughest fight of his life, just when things started to look up for him in boxing, we wish him luck.
