LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2015) — Undefeated Mexican knockout artist GILBERTO “Zurdo” RAMIREZ, the No. 2 world-rated super middleweight contender with the matinee idol looks, will host a Los Angeles Media Workout Tomorrow!Tuesday, June 16 at Fortune Gym (7574 B Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, Calif. 90046), beginning at Noon PT.Interviews will take place before the workout.

 

Ramirez will headline an all-action card on Friday, June 26, at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, TX, taking on DERECK “The Black Lion” EDWARDS in a 12-round WBO International super middleweight championship bout which will be televised live on The MetroPCS Friday Night Knockout on truTV® at 10:00 p.m. ET. Ramirez (31-0, 24 KOs), a two-fisted super middleweight wrecking machine who hails from Mazatlan, Mexico, is world-rated No. 2 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO), and No. 3 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Association (WBA). A sensational young contender, Ramirez, 23, has won four of his last five bouts by knockout. Last year featured career-best performances which included an NABF-NABO title victory over Giovanni Lorenzo via fifth-round stoppage, a WBO International title knockout victory over Junior Talipeau and a successful defense of his NABF and WBO International titles, stopping Fulgencio Zuniga in the eighth round. He returns to the ring fresh from a 10-round unanimous decision victory over once-beaten Maxim Vlasov on January 24.

 

Ramirez will once again be putting his titles on the line, this time against division gatekeeper Edwards (27-4-1, 14 KOs), of Las Vegas, NV. Last year Edwards scored a first-round knockout of previously undefeated Badou Jack, who recently won the WBC super middleweight world title. He finished the year losing a 12-round decision to once-beaten one-time world title challenger Andre Dirrell.
