Interview by Pattee Mak – November 1, 2013, Springfield, Massachusetts
Who wouldn’t love to watch a boxing hip hop music video? I know I would cause I love boxing. Singer and songwriter Kriss Famouss recently released his newest single entitled, “Bout That Life”. Portions of his music video were shot at one of those gyms that you’d love to just walk into, look at all the posters on the wall and reminisce of all those history making bouts and say, “Hey I remember that fight or that fighter” or just say “WOW that’s what so and so looked like back then”. So this time my interview is a bit different instead of interviewing a boxer I’m going straight to the songwriter, hip hop artist Kriss Famouss.

Pattee Mak: Thanks for taking the time to chat with me and of course including bits and pieces of me in your video for your newest song “Bout That Life”. Tell me how did the lyrics and the hook come about?
Kriss Famouss: Well first off it’s a pleasure to be interviewed by you. I did some research and seen some of the great people you interviewed so thank you. Well the hook and the lyrics basically comes from the energy from the beat. I usually sit there with the beat and try to vision where the state of mind the producer was in at that time. Somewhat like he gave me paint buckets with colors and wanted me to create a picture. So I felt a lot of energy, confidence and just being “Bout That Life” and no one can beat me right now. Very strong and explosive.
Pattee Mak: Some of the clips in the video were shot at Beast Elite Gym in Springfield, Massachusetts Tell me a about the video and what was played out.
Kriss Famouss: So in the song it’s bringing energy, confidence and explosiveness and in the hook I made it about a female and tied the video in with female boxers in the ring showing what they got, metaphorically in general in life. So I didn’t want to use the same ole theme so I figured boxing would be best fit for women in general to show their fight in life period and at the beginning I have this street pimp/hustler to try and get me, “Kriss Famouss” to come down and bet on the fight and of course I win. LOL.
Pattee Mak: Funny how that kinda worked out in your favor. LOL
Pattee Mak: Was this the first time you included the sport of boxing in your video?
Kriss Famouss: Yes but you never know I may include more in the future.
Pattee Mak: You had some local amateur fighters in your video. Can you tell me what their role was?
Kriss Famouss: During the fight scene, the role of the fighters were to show the energy from anyone who feels like they have been down and out, kicked to the curb in life and just ready to come back and win and to show the world they are “Bout That Life”. Also in the video were some boxers off to the side in the crowd cheering for their fighter.
Pattee Mak: Would you consider walking a fighter down to the ring and rapping this song as their intro?
Kriss Famouss: Most definitely. I would bring excitement to any arena while pumpin up their fans. Besides that is the ultimate excitement. So many fans love the ring intro. It prepares the fighter mentally and puts the fighter in the place he needs to be.
Pattee Mak: There are a ton of gyms in your surrounding area. Why did you pick that particular gym?
Kriss Famouss: Well I seen it was new to the area but everyone was familiar with the location. And as a businessman myself, I wanted to bring light and more revenue to this location. There’s a lot of young teens with nowhere to go or nothing to do, so I figured they see this video and will hopefully be motivated in some way and go check the place out and there you have it. We might have the next Mike Tyson or Mohammad Ali right here in the 413, Springfield, Mass. Pattee Mak: Have you ever done any sort of boxing?
Kriss Famouss: Only in tha street. LOL but that was a long, long time ago but I’m hoping one of these days to get some sparing in.
Pattee Mak: Who is your favorite boxer?
Kriss Famouss: My mom and Mike Tyson. LOL.

As in September, I once again ran out of gas in the 10th & 11th championship rounds of October & November with this column, but I recovered to complete them and will unleash a few more flurries to close out the 12th and final round.
In the first week of October, Hassan N’Dam won a UD over Curtis Stevens in an eliminator for the right to challenge Jermaine Taylor who defeated aging Sam Soliman to regain the IBF Middleweight title. How Taylor even earned this title shot is another story altogether, but it is all irrelevant as he is now the champion. However he will not have too much time to savor his victory as he has assault and battery charges pending against him and an upcoming court fight that may turn out to be the toughest fight of his life, just when things started to look up for him in boxing, we wish him luck.
