Tori Nelson Is Now the WIBA World Champ!

LopesvNelsonLincoln, Rhode Island, Ringside by Pattee Mak – September 13, 2013

Who says boxing is only a man’s sport. Let’s hear it for the girls, welterweights, fan favorite Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes of Marshfield, Massachusetts fought a tough girl by the name of Tori Nelson of Ashburn, Virginia, and former World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight world champion and WIBA Women’s International Boxing Association middleweight champion for the vacant Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) world title. The bout went the distance of 10 rounds, 2 minutes apiece but Lopes couldn’t withstand Nelson readiness and coming forward throughout the bout. There were no knockdowns to the canvas. Lopes developed a swollen left eye, while her cutman Mark Vaz did a great job keeping that under control. Round 8 both fighters exchanges an array of punches and banged it out. Out of the two I found Nelson having the better footwork throughout the fight and moved her head while Lopes didn’t have much head movement. The judges scored the bout 100-90; 98-92; 100-90.

Tori Nelson increased her record to 7-0-3 and Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes decreased her record to 10-2-0.

After the fight I spoke with Lopes cutman, Mark Vaz, he stated “She [Lopes] didn’t commit to the punches. She [Lopes] over thought a little too much and missed opportunities because she [Lopes] thought too much.

Undercard:

6 rounds – Welterweights Evincii Dixon of Lancaster, Pennsylvania vs. Nick Delomba of Cranson, Rhode Island. Round 1 Delomba wobbled Dixon with a great right cross while he was up against the ropes. Later in the round, Dixon while on the ropes countered with a right hand and dropped Delomba to the canvas. Round 3 Delomba landed a left hook on Dixon and startled Dixon right before the end of the round.

Throughout the bout Delomba continuously threw multiple combination punches while Dixon was on the attack to counter. Delomba developed a cut underneath his left eye. Both fighters put on a great show.

Delomba increased his record to 2-0-0 and Dixon decreased his record to 2-2.

RedkachvsSanchez6 rounds – Light Welterweight Ivan Redkach of Los Angeles, California vs. Antonio Sanchez of Bayamon, PR. Round 1 Redkach already developed a cut above his right eye and over his nose. Round 2 Sanchez obtained a nasty cut above his left eye. Thank God I wasn’t sitting ringside. The ringside physician stopped the bout during round 2.

6 rounds – Cruiserweight Josh Harris of Providence, Rhode Island vs. Quantis Graves of Beaumont, Texas. Slow 1st round. Graves throwing much of the punches trying to find his distance. Round 3 Harris received a 1 point deduction for a low blow. Another low blow in Round 5 but no point deduction. Winner Graves by UD. Judges scored it 58-55; 59-54 and 58-55.

4 rounds – Welterweight Zack “AK-47” Ramsey of Springfield, Massachusetts vs. Antonio “Lino” Fernandes of Brockton, Massachusetts. Ramsey controlled the bout while Fernandez ran away from Ramsey. Winner Ramsey by UD. Judges scored the bout 39-37; 40-36 and 40-36. I spoke to Ramsey before his fight. He stated, “It’s a great feeling to be getting paid for punching guys in the face”.

During intermission, Nassim Young Dragon performed an array of kick boxing moves with aerobatic stunts. I’m looking forward to seeing him in his upcoming movie(s).

“Champion Breed” professional boxing card with promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports’ in association with DiBella Entertainment. The event was held at the Twin River Casino, Lincoln, Rhode Island.
