Hard Work For “Hardcore”, Mansour Retains WBF Title

For only the second time in almost fifteen years, unbeaten World Boxing Federation Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion Amir “Hardcore” Mansour was taken the full distance when he retained his title on Friday August 23 at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Delaware.

After two first round knockouts this year, Mansour was made to battle all the way against teak-tough challenger Maurice Harris, who proved just as game as expected by absorbing all of Mansour’s heavy artillery and responding with much of his own.

The WBF champion proved to be more than just the knockout-specialist he is known to be, as he boxed well to win most of the twelve rounds, and handling the tricky style of Harris well. Having gone ten rounds only once in his career, this was otherwise his first time past six.

In the end judges Joseph Pasquale, Brian Costello and Mark D’Attilo voted unanimously in favor of Mansour with scores of 116-112, 119-109 and 120-108 respectively.

The defending champion improved his impressive professional record to 19-0 (14), while Maurice Harris, who turned pro at only sixteen, drops to a very deceiving 26-18-2 (11) in a career where he has shared a ring with some of the biggest names in the division over the last twenty years.
