There was a whole lot of trash talking leading up to this bout between welterweights Paulie Malignaggi the hometown favorite from Brooklyn, NY who went up against Cincinnati’s Adrien Broner. Both fighters had supporting fans supporting their efforts in the ring. Broner came in, did what he needed to do and won by split decision against Malignaggi. After 12 rounds the judges scored it 115-113 for Broner, 115-113 for Malignaggi and 117-111 for Broner.
Malignaggi was very busy during the rounds but couldn’t touch Broner, as Broner’s defense was impeccable. Broner patiently waited for the shots and landed them with more precession. I wonder if Broner even put up a sweat?
Jim Gray of Showtime interviewed Broner in the ring after the fight and asked Broner “Any regrets on anything that went on in the prefight news conferences?”
“Negative,” responded Broner. “I’m good. I beat Paulie, I left with his belt and his girl.”.
Broner increased his record to 27-0-0 and Malignaggi decreased his record to 32-5-7.
