Comments Off on The State of New York Shined at the Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
By Pattee Mak – April 28, 2013: Howard Beach, New York
The New York State Boxing Hall of Fame held its 2nd annual induction dinner at Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York. The event started off with an array of all sorts of delicious foods consisting of an assortment of fruits, bagels, and salads, along with mini food stations. Once the cocktail hour ended, a full course dinner was served while the ceremony began. For those that were present the inductees gave short speeches mainly about their boxing career and thanked the people most dear to them. Iran Barkley even made a few people in the audience shed a tear while he was speaking about his mother. Once inducted, each inductee was handed a full-sized, beautifully custom-designed belt. (See photos). Neither Bob Arum nor Larry Merchant was able to attend.

Previous to the gala, the inductees were selected on behalf of the NYSBHOF nominating committee. Members of this committee included Steve Farhood, Jack Hirsch, Don Majeski, Ron McNair, Henry Hascup, and Neil Terens. One of the criteria to be inducted into the NYSBHOF is that all boxers needed to be inactive for at least 3 years in order to be eligible for the induction, and all inductees must have resided in the New York State for a significant portion of their boxing careers.
