“IRISH” Joey McCreedy the UBF US-Northeast Light Heavyweight Champ

Light heavyweights fighting for the vacant Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) US-Northeast light heavyweight title were “Irish” Joey McCreedy vs Michael “Flash” Walchuk of Canada in the eight-round main event.
Dicky Eklund was working the corner of McCreedy.

Round 1, McCreedy landed a strong right hand that rocked Walchuk up against the ropes and chased him to two other sides of the ring. McCreedy is trying to go for the KO. McCreedy landed another strong right hand. Round 2 McCreedy doing a good job at cutting off the ring. The crowd here loves McCreedy cheering “JOEY!”. Round 3 McCreedy landed another strong right but it didn’t seem to worry Walchuk. Round 5 McCreedy landed another strong left and proceeded to back Walcuhk up against the ropes by throwing jab after jab. Walchuk turned McCreedy and counter punched. Round 6 McCreedy lands a right hook. Walchuk is taking a lot of punishment. McCreedy again backed up Walchuk up against the ropes while throwing combinations. Round 7 McCreedy lands Left hook. Walchuk appears to be tired. Walchuk at one point wobbles McCreedy. Round 8 Both fighters showed ring sportsmanship before beginning the round by touching gloves. The crowd is cheering for McCreedy and banging on whatever they can find. McCreedy wants to knock out Walchuk while Walchuk isn’t backing down and his skill level has improved in this round.

McCreedy winner by MD. Judges scored it 76-76, 78-74 and 77-75.

McCreedy increased his record to 14-6-2 and Michael “Flash” Walchuk decreased his recorded to 9-9-0.

Co-main event:

Middleweight action between Osumanu Adama of Joliet, IL by way of Ghana vs. Grady “Bad Boy” Brewer, the winner of The Contender II tv realty series out of Lawton, OK The bout was originally scheduled for 10 rounds for the WBC Continental Americas, International Boxing Organization Inter-Continental middleweight title and the UBF Inter-Continental middleweight title but unfortunately Adama didn’t make weight. He was over by ½ pound so he is ineligible to win any of the titles but Brewer is still able.

Round 1 was slow starting action. Both fighters didn’t throw too many punches. This crowd is getting restless shouting out “Stop the fight”. Round 2 Brewer came out of his corner in high gear, full force ahead. Both fighters throwing mostly jabs. Neither fighter was wobbled in this round or any round. Round 6 Brewer unleashed his power on Adama while Adama wasn’t defending himself. Adama is trying to take the punishment by covering up and trying to come back. Adama is saved by the bell. Round 10 more swelling under the right eye of Brewer. Last 10 seconds into the round both fighters continuing throwing combinations in more of a brawl style than technical fight.

Adama winner by Split Decision. The judges scored it 97-93 for Adama, 96-94 for Brewer and 96-94 for Adama.

Osumanu increased his record to 21-3-0 and Brewer decreased his record to 31-14-0.

Other bouts of the evening:

Welterweights “Vicious” Vivian Harris vs. Shakha Moore. Lack luster fight. Winner by UD Harris. Judges scored it 77-75, 78-74 and 80-72.

Bantamweights Mike Martin vs. Josh Crespo. Crespo landed a great short right hand on Martin in the 2nd round. After the end of round 2 and right before the beginning of round 3, the blue corner didn’t answer to the bell. Dicky Eklund was just protecting his fighter. Winner Crespo by TKO.

Middleweights Eddie “Thunder” Caminero vs. Russell Lamour. Lamour who went into this fight with only 2 fights against Caminero who was fighting his 15th fight, fought a great fight. Caminero dropped Lamour in the 5th and in the 6th Lamour hit Caminero with a body shot and dropped him. This was a very competitive fight. I’m looking to see more of Lamour, who has a great future ahead of him. Winner by UD Lamour. Judges scored it 57-56, 57-55, 57-55.

Cruiserweights Chris Traiette vs. Tyler Seever. Seever was down in the 5th and after the bell rang down again. Traiette hit Seever with a low blow in the 6th and Seever was down on the canvas twice in the same round. Winner Traiette by TKO, 1 minute 50 seconds into round 6.

Heavyweights Boban Simic vs. Tyler King. King is also an mma fighter with a record of 6-1-0. King was down in round 2 and lost by TKO, 2 minutes, 51 seconds into the round. When referee Eddie Claudio called a halt to the fight, King appeared dazed and couldn’t believe the fight was stopped.

Never a dull moment in boxing. The event was scheduled to start at 8:00 pm but due to circumstances it didn’t start until 9:09 pm. Unfortunately the crowd became very restless and yelling craziness out loud. I would say less than ½ of the arena was full.

This event was held live at the Tsonga Center at UMass, Lowell, Massachusetts and was promoted by CFC Promotion LLC.
