Interview by Pattee Mak – June 27, 2012
On July 7, 2012 at the Home Depot Center in Carlson, California, Super middleweights “Power” Will Rosinsky (16-1-0 w/9 Ko’s) of New York will be fighting Kelly Pavlik (39-2-0 w/34 Ko’s) of Ohio in a scheduled 10 round bout scheduled to be shown live on HBO. I had the pleasure to ask Rosinsky some questions concerning his upcoming bout.
Pattee Mak: How and when did this fight come about?
Rosinsky: The fight was brought to HBO after Brandon Rios fell out. The day after I roughed Aaron Pryor, Jr, I received a phone call from my advisor Keith Connolly. It was a “no-brainer” for me!!
Pattee Mak: The last time I saw Pavlik in the ring he fought Scott “Cujo” Sigmon. Pavlik won by TKO at the end of round 7 and Cujo’s face was a bloody mess. First did you watch the fight on ESPN and what were your thoughts on the fight?
Rosinsky: Yes I did see the fight LIVE, then I’ve watched it over again after I found out about this fight along with a lot of Pavlik’s fight. I though Pavlik fought a good fight but I also felt he was in there with a guy that wouldn’t have gone past 2 rounds a couple years ago. I don’t think he’s the same fighter he was.
Pattee Mak: After watching the fight what will be your game plan going into the ring?
Rosinsky: My game plan…that’s for me to know and the world to find out on July 7. Ha ha.
Pattee Mak: LOL
Pattee Mak: What will you do differently that Cujo didn’t do?
Rosinsky: I don’t feel Cujo was really fighting back. He was staying close and throwing ineffective punches. He seemed to be more in survival mode than anything.
Pattee Mak: Cujo was faced with being the underdog going into the fight and regrettably Vegas also saying you too will be the underdog. Do you let the chatter from outside sources effect you in any way?
Rosinsky: Not at all. Of course I’m the underdog, no one knows who I am…yet. How can Vegas or anyone have me as a favorite without knowing who I am.
Pattee Mak: Congrats on winning your last fight. You were victorious by UD against Aaron Pryor, Jr. at the Roseland Ballroom, New York, New York on June 14, 2012. You are now fighting less than a month later. Is this enough of time for your body to rest before your upcoming fight against Pavlik?
Rosinsky: It’s absolutely enough time. The only reason why it would be enough time is if I was not on weight. Staying in shape is the key to not being burnt out. Rest during camp is also important. I am very far from burnt out and will be more than ready on July 7.
Pattee Mak: The only loss on your record was against Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez on 10-21-2011. He won by UD all 10 rounds. I asked Rodriguez “… Some would say that you [Rodriguez] didn’t win every round. What are your [Rodriguez] thoughts on this and the fight as a whole?” He answered, “I believe it was a fight. I do feel 100% I won the fight. There were a lot of close rounds that could of went his way. I’m not a judge but they got the right winner. It was a good fight. He came to fight. I out landed him more power punches. 700 to his 500. I hit him with something like 100 punches more. The clear winner won. They had the right decision”. There was some controversy after this fight with the decision made. There were even some spectators in the crowd that felt you won. What are your thoughts on the outcome and Rodriguez’s answer?
Rosinsky: Well it was definitely a very competitive fight. The numbers don’t always reflect a winner because winning a round is also based on ring generalship and effective punches landed. As of now though, I have this next fight to think about. I’m well past that fight in my career and will get that rematch sooner than later when the time is right.
Pattee Mak: I believe you are currently employed as an EMT. Is it difficult to find time to train for a fight? You’ve already fought 3 times in 2012.
Rosinsky: No, not at all. Luckily, having the greatest job in the world, I’m am able to get time off to train as well as train before work when I have to. The FDNY has done nothing but support me.
Pattee Mak: Where are you currently training?
Rosinsky: I am now training in Universal Boxing Gym in Queens and Crunch on 34th Street in Manhattan.
Pattee Mak: Who is your trainer?
Rosinsky: Felipe Gonez and Mike Spiegel is my strength and conditioning coach. Mike Rella is my cut man. Pattee Mak: What is it like working with your promoter Lou DiBella?
Rosinsky: Lou has been very productive in getting me the right fights while also staying active. I know as long as I keep improving, Lou will put me in the right positions.
Pattee Mak: Out of all of your fights would you say this fight will be the toughest or was there one in particular that stands out?
Rosinsky: Yes, definitely the toughest but I would have to answer that question after the fight.
Pattee Mak: What would you like to say to your fans out there?
Rosinsky: I would like to thank all the people/fans for their support. I know that I’m not known on an international or even national level just yet, but I will assure you that people will know who I am after July 7.
Pattee Mak: Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. You have a great future ahead of you. Should you have any comments or suggestions, please free to comment below or contact me on facebook at Pattee Mak or on twitter @PatteeMak.
Rosinsky: All I’m hoping for is a fair decision. If this fight goes to the scorecards, all I want is a fair shake. Thanks again.
