Amakor Boxing Chronicles- March 24, 2012

Whoever tells you boxing is dying or is in decline does not know what the hell, those statements are  certainly not backed up by the facts and does not take into account the new wave of coverage that boxing is receiving currently, sure it mostly streamed on premier tv, but then much of almost everything else is on premium TV

Just think about any great series or programming you love right now, if you run down the list you will find that they are mostly on HBO, SHOWTIME or new upstart Starz.

Which brings me to my recap of boxing from the week of March 25, 2011

First up before the talking about the fights you have to give a big shout out to NBC Friday’s Sports network fights on NBC, I was amazed at this network who ran a special about former five time champ Zab Super Judah, they ran a great series before the fight called 36 hours with Zab Judah were the basically ran a 247 type imitation of HBO’S approach to promoting a fighter before the fight. It was great to hear and see a different approach to promoting a fight and to learn about Zab Judah.

But not to get ahead of myself, the freakishly tall Mariusz Wach scored a 6^th round tko over Fields at the to defend his WBC International heavyweight title, not telecast on TV but streamed to the world on gofightlive.tv

Then the channels had to be switched back NBC where upstart Bryant Jenning the current heavyweight champion Bryant Jennings fought, chopped and broke down former WBO champion Sergie Liakhovich so convincingly that the ringside physician was forced to stop that fight at the 10 round. Bryant Jennings is an interesting prospect who just won his current title by previously defeating another rising prospect Maurice Byram in his last fight a few months ago.

Even while that fight was taking place rival network HBO was streaming its championship double header featuring James Kirkland who defended his title against John Molina in controversial fashion. And a few minutes after Bryant Jennings hands were raised in victory a straight right by Kirkland send Molina into the canvas, __cull from FB

Then you had to switch back to NBC after to watch Tomacz Adamek take on Nagy Aguilera

Then you were forced to switch back to HBO to watch the championship fight between tough as nails and legendary take on Danny Garcia, it went to the distance but it was Garcia who won

Back to NBC to watch one of the most entertaining performances by Zab Judah the former champion who outboxed Paris and ended stopping him in the ninth round to wrap up a solid telecast by NBC for the night. Zab Judah is now the mandatory challenger to the winner between Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson.

A few hours before all the festivities in the US, Enzo Maccarinelli began the long and perhaps scorned road back into contention as he seized the British Cruiserweight title from ______ no matter what you say it’s a title and it was before a packed house at the _______

Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (35-5, 27 KOs) claimed the British cruiserweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over defending titlist Shane McPhilbin (8-3, 5 KOs) on Friday night at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall in Wolverhampton, England. Maccarinelli survived knockdowns in rounds one and three, then took command of the fight after that, winning by scores of 115-111, 116-111 and 115-110. Maccarinelli received an assist from the timekeeper in round one when the bell rang 47 seconds early giving him time to regain his senses after being leveled by a left hook.

In my neck of the woods but due to pressing domestic assignments I was unable to attend the Washington Golden gloves held at the Waldorf Jacycees Community Center in Waldorf and a few names came into consciousness by all accounts,

Like I said whoever told you boxing is dying does not know what the hell the are talking about, and those were the facts from just one weekend in Boxing.
