ARES PROMOTIONS’ presented Fight Night VII at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, Albany, New York. The Main Event consists of Junior Welterweight Eudy Bernardo of Elias Pina, Dominican Republic vs Darnell Jiles, Jr of Rochester, New York.
Bernardo last fought on 11-23-11 against Gabriel Morris and won a 4 round unanimous decision. Jiles last fought on 2-13-2009 against Ray Robinson and lost in the 3rd round due to his hand being broken.
Round 1 Bernardo landed a straightforward right hand on Jiles that brought him straight to the canvas seconds before the end of the round. At the start of round 3, the ref delayed the fight due to Jiles underwear being above his trunks. [First time I ever witnessed something like this]. Round 4 Bernardo came in strong hitting Jiles and continued throughout the bout with calculated punches and strategic fighting. The judges scored the bout 57-56 Jiles; 58-55 Bernardo and 58-55 Bernardo. Bernardo wins by Split Decision.
Bernardo increases his record to 10-0-0 and Jiles decreases his record to 8-2-1

Heavyweights: Shannon Miller vs. Jon Bolden. Miller won by Unanimous Decision. 59-55; 58-56 and 58-56.
Super middleweights: Andy Mejias vs Markus Brooks. Mejias won by Unanimous Decision. 60-54; 59-55 and 59-55.
Light heavyweights: Shawn Miller vs Mark Anderson. Miller won by Unanimous Decision. 59-52; 60-53 and 60-53.
Lightweights: Bryan Acaba vs Jamell Tyson. Acaba won by Majority Decision. 38-38; 37-35 and 37-35.
Also lets name a few who’s who in the boxing scene that was present last night: Mike Faragon, Tony Marshall, Emmanuel Lucero, Harrison Cuello, Bryan Abraham, Brian Miller, Steve Tyner, Sarah Kuhn, Zach Smith, Leona Brown, Harold Lederman, Andrew Stokes and Bob Duffy.
I asked HBO BOXING expertise Harold Lederman what he thought of tonight’s fight. He stated “ It’s a great show, lots of action. Evenly matched fights. What else can you ask for. Great atmosphere.”
As in September, I once again ran out of gas in the 10th & 11th championship rounds of October & November with this column, but I recovered to complete them and will unleash a few more flurries to close out the 12th and final round.
In the first week of October, Hassan N’Dam won a UD over Curtis Stevens in an eliminator for the right to challenge Jermaine Taylor who defeated aging Sam Soliman to regain the IBF Middleweight title. How Taylor even earned this title shot is another story altogether, but it is all irrelevant as he is now the champion. However he will not have too much time to savor his victory as he has assault and battery charges pending against him and an upcoming court fight that may turn out to be the toughest fight of his life, just when things started to look up for him in boxing, we wish him luck.
