FIGHT CARD TO BE STREAMED ON DEMAND ON WWW.GFL.TV
NEWARK, NEW JERSEY (September 15, 2011)—On Wednesday night at the Robert Treat Hotel, Vincent Ponte’s Gulfstream Boxing along with Gabe LaConte put on a fantastic night of boxing that saw two titles won; A Controversial Heavyweight fight featuring two undefeated fighters and a New Jersey Fight of the year candidate.
The card can be seen on demand on www.gfl.tv for just $9.99
In the main event, Michael Torres of Jersey City, New Jersey captured the New Jersey won the New Jersey State Jr. Welterweight title with an eight round unanimous decision over Mark Alexander of London, England.
In what was a major step up fight, Wanzell Ellison gathered himself to salvage a hard fought draw against rugged and battle tested Carlos Vinan in a six round Jr. Lightweight fight.
Vinan was all over Ellison over the first two rounds until Ellison started mixing up his attack by both boxing and slugging with the upset specialist Vinan.
When the two went toe to toe the near capacity crowd at the Robert Treat stood and cheered on the two fighters from Newark.
There was not much to choose from as each fighter had some great moments and most ringsiders believed that a draw was the proper verdict.
Young nineteen year old Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna won his first hardware as he captured the BAM Youth title when he took a four round unanimous from Josh Williams of Sheridan, Arkansas.
LaManna tried to use his length advantage but Williams was a gritty customer and kept coming forward in an effort to crowd LaManna.
LaManna made the proper adjustments to come home with the BAM Youth Middleweight crown.
In what was the most controversial bout of the night, undefeated Heavyweights John Lennox and Joey Dawejko locked up in what may have been the most anticipated fight of the night.
Dawejko came out strong and landed some thunderous body punches along with some solid head shots.
Dawejko landed a big left hook that sent Lennox back a step. Dawejko the preceded to land two more shots before referee Lindsay Page stopped the bout.
Many at ringside (and most vociferously Lennox’ corner protested and were upset at what was very possibly a quick stoppage)
Lennox team has asked the New Jersey State Commission to look at the tape and see if the verdict can be over turned.
Vincent Ponte Gulfstream Boxing and Gabe LaConte plan to return to the Robert Treat Hotel in late November.
The matchmaker was Renee Aiken
