On May 20, 2011, The Law Offices of Dean Cariglia, BHR Life Companies, Bay State Savings Bank, Hispano / Vocero along with Paxton Promotions presented live professional boxing at the Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts featuring Worcester’s hometown favorite and former 3x world champion “El Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera (40-6-0) vs. Connecticut’s own Luis Maysonet (32-12-0) in an 8 round main event fight.
The last time both fighters fought in the ring was back in 2008. Rivera’s last fight was 8-8-2008 and Maysonet’s last fight was on 9-6-2008. Since both fighters haven’t had a fight in so long, I was curious to see if they would be rusty or ready for the challenge.
During the first couple of rounds both Rivera and Maysonet seemed to be taking their time and starting off slow, patiently waiting for the right time to strike. By the 5th round both opponents was gaining momentum and landing more punches. In the end the judges scored the match in favor of Rivera.
Along with the main event the card consisted of the up and coming boxing champs at the amateur level and 6 additional 4 round professional fights of the evening.
