Emmanuel Lucero Comes Out On Top!

By Pattee Mak

On Friday, April 15, 2011, Ares Promotions presented “Fight Night IV”  at the Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York.  In the Main Event Emmanuel “The Butcher” Lucero (26-6-1) of Pennsylvania fought against Carlos Rivera (16-9-2) of Florida in an 8 round fight for the NYS Jr. Lightweight Championship.

Lucero who dominated most of the 8 rounds kept firing away at Rivera. Throughout the rounds Rivera kept asking Lucero verbally for more punches. Unfortunately Rivera could not connect with his punches and in turn, Lucero won by unanimous decision making him the Jr. lightweight champion.

When I spoke with Rivera’s trainer, Anthony Vazquez he stated, “Rivera had a mental block and couldn’t get his punches off.  Rivera is going to go home and evaluate his defeat.”

Along with the males, the females were fighting 8 rounds for the NYS Women’s Featherweight Championship.   Jaclyn Trivilino (6-3-2) of New York fought against Nydia Feliciano (3-2-3) of New York.   I just love watching a match where there is continuous, non-stop action from both opponents.  By majority decision Feliciano came out on top and won the title.   You can tell that both had a lot of heart and wanted this win.  The last time they fought each other it ended up in a draw.

Other bouts of the evening:

Sarah Kuhn vs. Ku’ulei Kupihea. Winner – Kupihea
Shawn Miller vs. Gerald Tayler. Winner – Miller
Joseph Yerdon vs. Jose Angel Ortiz. Winner – Ortiz
Detroy Jones vs. Kimani Cummingham. Winner – Jones
Llyas Aksabav vs. Marcus Hall. Winner – Hall
