Breidis Prescott Wins Again!!!

By Pattee Mak

On Friday, April 22, 2011, Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing presented live ESPN action at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. Breidis Prescott of Barranquilla, Colombia (24-2-0) went up against Bayan Jargal of Ulan-Bator, Mongolia (15-2-3) in a 10 round light welterweight showdown.  The first couple of rounds started off slow. Each opponent exchanged punches. Towards the end of round 5 Prescott devoured his opponent with left and rights.  I wondered if the referee was going to stop the match but Jargal later found inner strength and countered.

In the 7th round Jargal appears to be fatigued.   The remainder rounds both opponents gave it their all. The judges score card reads 99-91, 99-90 and 100-90. Naming the winner Breidis Prescott by unanimous decision.

Junior middleweights Demetrius Andrade of Providence, Rhode Island  (13-0-0) vs. Omar Bell of Montego Bay, Jamaica (8-2-0) in an 8 round fight.  Demetrius “The Hammer” Andrade knocked down Omar Bell 1 min 31 seconds in the 2nd round.   The winner Andrade by way of KO.

Heavyweights “The Future” Joe Hanks of Newark, New Jersey (16-0-0) vs. “The Baby Boy” Terrell Nelson of Plainsfield, New Jersey (8-12-0) in a 6 round fight.  Hanks won the bout at the end of Round 3 by TKO.

Cruiserweights Nicholas Lavin of Yonkers, New York (2-1-0) vs. “The Crazy Uncle” Kevin Cobbs of Burlington, Vermont  (1-0-0) in a 4 round fight.  Kevin’s debut performance was very impressive. In the 1st round Cobbs won by KO, 1 minute 30 seconds into the round.

Junior middleweights Kevin Rooney, Jr. of Catskill, New York (1-0-0) vs. David Navarro of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (0-3-0) in a 4 round fight. Rooney’s debut performance was also very impressive. 1st  and 2nd round Rooney knocked Navarro to the canvas.  All the judges scored the bout 40-34.   Rooney won by majority decision.
