Marco
“Captain” Huck (28-1, 21 KOs) defended his WBO
Cruiserweight Title with a spectacular third-round
TKO victory over Adam Richards (23-3, 15 KOs). The
25-year-old German champion started to land his
trademark power punches in the second round before
dropping his opponent in the third. Huck followed it
up with another firework that sent his opponent down
again, prompting the referee to call the one-sided
contest off. “I am never pleased with my performance
because I can always improve but I am happy that I
defended my title in front of my fans in Berlin,”
Huck said. “I really wanted to put on a good show to
please everybody. I am happy with the result.”
Coach Ulli Wegner
lauded his fighters´ explosiveness. “Marco is very
strong and very explosive. He punches extremely
hard. But he still has to learn a few things. He is
just 25 years old he still has a lot of time left. I
am very happy with the progress he has made during
the last couple of fights.”
Manager Wilfried
Sauerland also liked what he saw. “If Marco has an
opponent in trouble, he is absolutely ruthless and
goes for the KO. The fans love his explosiveness and
aggressiveness. His fights are very exciting to
watch. There are big things coming up for him.”
In the co-featured main
event, the IBF´s number one Alexander Povetkin
(19-0, 14 KOs) clinched his 19th victory in as many
fights when he stopped Javier Mora (22-6, 18 KOs) in
the fifth round. Povetkin, Wladimir Klitschko´s
mandatory challenger, dumped his opponent in the
first with a huge left hook before following it up
with hard shots to body and head. He knocked his
opponent down again in the second and continued the
punishment throughout the entire fight. After brave
Mora, who proved his great chin, was knocked down
again in the fifth following another hard
combination, the referee stopped the fight. “It was
another good test for me,” Povetkin said. “Teddy
Atlas has taught me a lot of great things. I could
show not all but some of them tonight.” Added Atlas:
“It was good that the fight was not over in the
first round after the knock-down because for
Alexander it is very important to be inside the ring
a lot. Experience is key for him. There are still
some things to improve but he showed a lot of good
things tonight.” Promoter Kalle Sauerland was also
pleased with Povetkin´s performance. “Alexander did
very well,” he said. “We are now waiting to see what
Klitschko does next weekend. We are ready for him.”
On the undercard, IBF Intercontinental Cruiserweight
Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez (21-1, 11 KOs) cruised
to an uncontested points victory over Cesar David
Crenz, while fellow cruiserweight hopeful Alexander
Frenkel (22-0, 17 KOs) clinched a unanimous points
victory over Michael Simms. Kubrat Pulev (7-0, 5
KOs) notched his seventh victory in as many fights,
knocking out Danny Batchelder with a left uppercut
in the second round.
Grano Avenges
Only Loss With Decision Against Brown

Fan favorite Tony “TNT”
Grano gained revenge for his only loss as a pro,
winning a unanimous 10-round decision last night
against Mark “Oak Tree” Brown in the main event on
the “Brace For Impact” card, promoted by Jimmy
Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc.,
(CES), in a sold-out Fox Theater at Foxwoods Resort
Casino.
Grano (17-1-1, 13 KOs)
was cruising along through a rough fight until early
in the final round, when lightning nearly struck
again as Brown (15-3, 7 KOs), who knocked out Tony
in the 8th round of their first fight, dropped Grano
with an overhand right early in the 10th round.
Grano, however, kept his composure and remained out
of trouble to win on the judges’ scorecards (98-91,
97-92, 97-92).
“I didn’t want to
overextend myself and rush in,” Grano commented.
“This (revenge) was sweet. He’s a tough guy. He
comes to fight. I give him credit for giving me a
rematch.”

SOSNOWSKI TO FACE KLITSCHKO
Press
Release: March 10, 2010
Current
European heavyweight champion, Albert "The
Dragon" Sosnowski (45-2-1, 27KO) will have
the opportunity to fulfill a life- long
dream of becoming heavyweight champion of
the world, when he takes on WBC heavyweight
king, Vitali Klitschko (39-2, 37KO) on May
29th at Veltins Arena, in Gelsenkirchen,
Germany.
The 31-year-old
Polish native Sosnowski is promoted by Joe
DeGuardia's Star Boxing (USA), Keyspan Media
(Poland) and Matchroom Sport (UK). Sosnowski
is coming off dominating unanimous decision
victory over Paolo Vidoz in December to pick
up the vacant European heavyweight title.
Sosnowski also holds an 8th round TKO
victory over Mike Tyson conqueror Danny
Williams, who Klitschko also defeated by 8th
round TKO.
Sosnowski has quick hands for a heavyweight,
and at 31 he is 7 years younger then the
champion, something that could give
Klitschko problems. Can Sosnowski pull off
the upset? Only time will tell.
WBO
Cruiserweight Champion Marco “Captain” Huck,
American challenger Adam Richards, IBF
mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin as
well as cruiserweight hopeful Alexander
Frenkel and IBF Intercontinental
Cruiserweight Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez
all participated in a public work-out today
in Berlin´s famous Axel-Springer-Passage.
All fighters will be in action on Saturday
night when Captain Huck makes a second
defence of his WBO title. His opponent
presented himself in strong shape on Tuesday
afternoon despite a horror trip from
Houston, which had left him stranded in
Amsterdam after missing his connecting
flight. After a long wait, Richards (23-2,
15 KOs) made it to Berlin and eventually to
his downtown hotel on late Monday night.
“Everything is fine now,” he said. “It was a
long journey but I am here and that is all
that matters. I will be ready for Huck. It
will be an exciting fight with two bulls
going forward all the time.”
Captain Huck
(27-1, 20 KOs) proved his punching power and
explosiveness when working the pads with
coach Ulli Wegner. “This is the first time I
will be defending my belt in Berlin,” he
said. “I really want to impress my fans and
put on a good show. Richards is a tough
opponent, but he has never been inside the
ring with someone like me. He will not leave
the country with my belt!”
Also in action will be up-and-coming
heavyweight star Alexander Povetkin (18-0,
13 KOs). The 2004 Olympic gold medal winner
will make his second fight under the
guidance of star coach Teddy Atlas, taking
on Javier Mora (22-5, 18 KOs). Today the duo
gave the crowd a look at their training
routine during the public session. “It is
great to work with Teddy Atlas,” Povetkin
said. “He is a great coach and I keep
learning new things every day. I need to
stay in shape for Klitschko so I want to put
on a convincing performance on Saturday. It
is great to be fighting in Berlin again.
This is where I defeated Eddie Chambers to
become the IBF´s mandatory challenger so I
am keen to continue where I left it.”
This
past Saturday night in Atlantic City, welterweight
contender Shamone “The Truth” Alvarez may have put
on his most complete performance to date and shot
himself right back in to title contention as he
scored an emphatic knockout in round seven of their
ten round Welterweight bout at The Tropicana Hotel
and Casino.
All the action
was streamed live all over the world on

Alvarez looked
sensational as he stood in the pocket with
the heavy handed Camacho and landed
counteless left hands until he dropped
Camacho twice in round seven in ending the
bout and with that victory, he may have
catapulted himself back into contention to
compete for the Welterweight championship.
Alvarez of Atlantic City is now 21-2 with
twelve knockouts.

Chase "The White Tiger" Shields is the new WBC USNBC
Light Middleweight Champion. He accomplished this
feat by defeating the more experienced Jimmy Lange
the defending champion by unanimous decision in
front of his 5123 home town fans this past Saturday
at the Patriot Center in Fairfax Virginia.
Characteristic of most
Jimmy Lange's fights, he has had 9 in a row at the
Patriot Center, he came into the arena under a rain
of graffiti to the cheers of his fans, but
Chase Shields was unfazed and took command of the
fight immediately digging, jabbing and landing some
lead rights that caught the seemingly patient and
more methodical Jimmy Lange flush and who seemed to
be concentrating on popping Shield's to the body to
lose the 1st two rounds. By round three Lange gained
some momentum and began stalking and landing digging
combinations to the body of Shields, but he was
unable to effectively cut off the ring as Shield
circled away occasionally countering when Lange
moved in.
By round four both fighters were sitting on their
punches with Lange attacking the body and
aggressively banging away at Shields whenever he

Lange Charge, Shields Storms to Victory

(USNBC) 154-lb. title in a
controversial, but unanimous 12-round
decision (115-111, 115-111, 115-111)
over Jimmy Lange of Great Falls , VA
Saturday night at the Patriot Center in
hard-fought, action-packed bout before
5,123 fans.
After both
fighters had gone toe-to-toe up to this
point, Shields (30-3-1, 14 KOs ) seemed to
be in trouble in the 9th round when the
lights above the ring suddenly went out,
halting the action for nearly six minutes.
After the lights were restored, Lange
(31-4-2, 21 KOs ), seemingly lost his
momentum and was not able to pick up where
he left off. Meanwhile, Shields regained his
composure during the break in action and
came back to score knockdowns in the 10th

push in the 12th round but the hometown

Pacquiao vs. Clottey: The anatomy of a
boring fight
By Mortz C. Ortigoza - March 7, 2010
Although Joshua
Clottey is not Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto
who were already washed-up when they clashed
with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao,
the Ghanaian boring style of fighting would
bust the pockets of those fanatics who fly
to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington , Texas this
sunday.
His fight with
Pacquiao is like watching with eternity a
casket in the midst of an endless sermon of
a priest in a funeral rite. Although he can
be likened to Fort Knox where his turtle
like defense of gloves and forearms he loves
to utilize to cover his African black face
and granite-chin, fight fans do not like to
watch a fighter waste all his time in the
ring covering his face.
They want pugs like Miguel Cotto and Antonio
Margarito (during their heydays) of the
welterweight division who boxed and brawled
and not played hide and seek. With ..continue
Devon "Alexander the Great" Stops Urango
Undefeated Devon Alexander "The Great"
stunned Juan "Iron Twins" Urango with two
knockdowns in the eighth round that led to a
spectacular technical knockout win.
Alexander took Urango's IBF title at 140
pounds and added it to his WBC super
lightweight championship.
Post-Fight
Ring Quotes
Devon
Alexander: “My coach told me to stay
focused when Urango started bleeding [from
the nose in the third round]. My coach said,
‘Don’t stand there and get hit.’ “His [Urango’s]
punches did not hurt at all. I was surprised
by that. Speed kills everything and that’s
what I have.
“We trained all
camp throwing the right uppercut.” Kevin
Cunningham [trainer and manager] to Devon
Alexander: “Did you hear me yell to you to
throw the uppercut?” Alexander: “Yeah, I
heard you!” Cunningham: “I told Devon to
throw the uppercut, and he heard me. It was
the magic shot. We trained all camp to throw
that punch. We used speed to set up the
power.”
“I can beat
anyone: Zab, Timothy Bradley, you name it. I
want to come back to St. Louis and sell out
the Scottrade center. I’m coming back to
good old St. Lou with two world titles. This
is very sweet.”
Juan Urango:
“I’m very happy and satisfied with my
performance tonight. Devon is a great
champion and he came out and did his job. I
performed well but Devon won tonight.”
Derric
Rossy: “Page is a crafty, veteran fighter that
can take a punch, no doubt about it. He knew how to
take away the space I need to land my best shots. I
dropped a big right hand on him in the sixth round
and had him down and almost out. I think I tried too
hard for the knockout instead of just letting it
come.
“I could have
let my hands go more in the closing rounds,
but, like I said, he’s a crafty guy.”
Zack Page: “I wasn’t as good as I
wanted to be tonight. I wasn’t in my best
condition. I know that now. Rossy is a good
fighter. He deserved the win tonight.”
A couple of
thoughts ; Although 2010 has gotten off to a
slow start things will be heating up as
spring approaches. Some predictions...
Mayweather by
UD over Mosley. As much as I like and
respect Shane as a fighter I don't think
he'll pull this one out. Like him or not, in
my humble opinion Mayweather is still #1
until somebody whips him. It will be a good
fight for six or seven rounds and then Floyd
pulls away.
Pac TKO over
Clottey...When this fight was first made I
thought it would be a close contest.I felt
Manny would win but it would be tough fight.
The more I have thought about it the more I
see Manny winning easier the I first
anticipated. Don't get me wrong. Clottey is
far from a pushover. If fact I feel Clottey
will be the strongest boxer Manny has met up
to this point. I just believe Manny's speed
and punch volume will wear Clottey down and
eventually stop him. I'll say around the
tenth or eleventh round. THEN the table will
be set for the superfight of 2010. Floyd -vs-
Manny.
Pavlik TKO over
Martinez...This is a tough contest for Kelly
but in the end the cream will rise to the
top. Kelly has been bombarded in the press.
This will be his second coming out party.
Sergio will give him fits in the early going
with his awkward but effective style. I just
feel that Kelly's size, strength and power
will overwhelm Martinez in the end. Pavlik
is a physical marvel. I've seen this kid
train. He should have "Rocky Balboa" stamped
on his forehead. Old school all the way !
I don't feel
Antonio Margarito should be allowed to box.
Boxing is dangerous enough. A boxer risks
his life every time he steps into the ring.
To do what Margarito did was just plain
wrong. He might as well have stepped into
the ring with a tire iron in one hand and a
billyclub in the other. It may seem harsh
but he should have thought about the
punishment before he did it. Remember an
"unloaded" Margarito looked very ordinary
against Mosley.
Povetkin warms up for Klitschko with fight
against Mora
Unbeaten
heavyweight contender and IBF mandatory
challenger Alexander Povetkin (18-0, 13 KOs)
will take on Javier Mora in Berlin on March
13. The 2004 Olympic gold medal winner will
make his second fight under the guidance of
star coach Teddy Atlas. In December, the
30-year-old Russian became the first man to
knock out Leo Nolan, clinching a third-round
KO victory in Ludwigsburg. To warm up for
the hotly-anticipated showdown against
Wladimir Klitschko, Povetkin needs to take
care of business against Mora (22-3, 18 KOs)
on the Huck-Richards card. “Everything can
happen in heavyweight boxing, so I really
need to be on alert,” Povetkin said. “I will
of course be entering the fight as the
favourite since I had a very good amateur
career and I am currently the IBF´s number
one. I will win this fight and show
everybody that I am ready for Klitschko.”
Povetkin and
Atlas have been training in New Jersey. “The
training was very hard and very good,”
Povetkin said. “I have learned a lot of
things. Of course it will take a while until
I can show them in the ring. So the fight
against Mora will be another good test for
me. I am looking forward to fighting in
Berlin.”
Added Teddy Atlas: “I have been working on a
lot of things with Alexander. We are trying
to further develop his ring identity. He has
always risen to the moment – that is why he
was 17 and 0 when I got him. But there are
still a lot of things where he could
improve. We have been working very hard on
that. I believe in his character and his
talent. This will be another good test. He
will definitely be ready once he faces
Klitschko.”
CANADIAN CHAMPION KIELSA TO DEFEND VS PAJKIC
Press Release: Thursday, March 4, 2010
In the world of
boxing, it’s a rare sight to see two
burgeoning heavyweight stars putting their
respective undefeated records on the line.
In the world of Canadian boxing, it’s
Haley’s Comet.
But on March
27th, at Rumble at Rama XI, at Casino Rama,
in Rama, Ontario, Greg “The Steel Pole”
Kielsa (11-0, 5 KO’s) and Neven “No
Surrender” Pajkic (11-0, 5 KO’s) will clash
for Kielsa’s Canadian Heavyweight title, in
a battle with more than just Canadian
supremacy on the line.
While both
boxers are now living and training in the
Toronto area, this dream match-up has a real
European twist! The champion is an
undefeated Polish–Canadian, and the
challenger is an undefeated
Serbian–Canadian. Despite the billing, and
rare Canadian significance, this fight is in
essence a European grudge match.
Kielsa was born
in Bialystok Poland, and became an
outstanding super-heavyweight on the Polish
national team, winning four Polish amateur
titles, and representing his country at the

Felix Sturm declines mandatory defence
required by WBA
Felix Sturm has
declared in lieu of an oath before Hamburg
District Court that under no circumstances
will he take part in the mandatory title
defence bout required by the WBA against the
number two in the world rankings, Gennady
Golovkin, and his legal representative in
court has furthermore declared Sturm’s
willingness to voluntarily lay down his WBA
title, if necessary.
This follows an
application to the court by Universum on 19
February 2010 for an injunction order to
prevent Sturm from arranging or taking part
in a fight against Golovkin without
Universum’s involvement. Sturm had
previously refused out of court to make a
cease-and-desist declaration to this end.
Sturm’s attorney for the proceedings had
claimed in a written submission to the court
on 15 February 2010 that defaulting on the
fight would entail a loss of image and a
huge loss of earnings for the boxer, as well
as having irreparable effects on his
sporting career. As Sturm’s declaration to
the court yesterday makes it clear that the
Sturm vs. Golovkin fight will not take
place, Universum’s injunction petition has
become groundless and has thus been
withdrawn.
This does not affect the main proceedings
also pending before Hamburg District Court
in which Felix Sturm hopes to obtain a
ruling that his exclusive contract with
Universum, valid until November 2012, was
effectively ended by his termination of it
without notice on 4 August, 2009. Universum,
meanwhile, filed a counterclaim to this on
28 January, 2010 to move the court to oblige
Sturm to cooperate in the arrangement and
execution of the boxing matches set up by
Universum under the contract and to refrain
from breaching the contract by negotiating
and participating in autonomously-arranged
boxing matches.

Travis Kauffman now available on
www.gofightlive.tv
Press Release; March 1, 2010
This
weekend’s biggest boxing events were
captured by www.gofightlive.tv and
it featured two world title fights
that may have produced a new star in
one and the second world title ended
with controversy.
In
Puerto Rico, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
made history as he followed in the
footsteps of his father as he
destroyed highly regarded Marvin
Sonsona from the Philippines.
Vázquez
went after his man in the fourth and
pinned him several times against the
ropes using his jab and straight
right hand until one of those right
hands broke through Sonsona’s
defense and hurt him. A follow up
left hook to the body put Sonsona
down for the full count and tonight,
it was the Puerto Rican who made
history by becoming part of the
first ever Puerto Rican father and
son duo to win world titles.
With
the impressive victory, Vázquez
earns his first belt and improves
his record to 18-0-1 15KO’s while
Sonsona loses his first one and goes
to 14-1-1 12KO’s. After the fight,
Sonsona told the press he made the
mistake of trading with the man he
now knows to be a strong puncher.
Still he insisted he would remain in
the weight class where he says he
feels strong.
The
scene then shifted to Mexico as
Rodel Mayol and Omar Nino battled
for the WBC Light Flyweight title.
It was
a solid fight until Nino hit Mayol
with a low blow in round three.
While Mayol stopped and waited for
referee Vic Drachulich to intervene,
Nino knocked Mayol out cold with a
vicious left hook. Mayol left the
fight on a stretcher and the bout
was ruled a draw.

Kauffman, Cintron Dominate in
Allentown, PA
Two of
Reading, PA's native sons made their
triumphant returns to the ring last
night as Travis Kauffman and Jason
Cintron scored dominant wins over
their opponents at the Rodeway Inn &
Conference Center in Allentown, PA.
King's Promotions, who promoted the
first boxing event in Allentown in
two years, were proud to announce
the event was a tremendous success
as all 800 available seats were sold
out.
In the
heavyweight main event, Travis
Kauffman boxed and banged his way to
a shutout unanimous decision over
Mike Miller. Kauffman, 228, came out
in the first round looking to make a
physical impression on the much
larger Miller, 276, as he hammered
hard body shots in the first round.
Those body shots began to take their
toll in the second round as Miller
began to slow precipitously and
allowed Kauffman to work his jab
consistently.
Kauffman switched stances
effortlessly and landed hard right
hooks to the head and body. The
durable Miller of Akron, OH absorbed
thudding shots but remained standing
for the duration of the fight. All
three judges scored the fight 60-54
for Kauffman.
The win
was Kauffman's first fight back
since losing a controversial fight
with Tony Grano on Showtime last
year.
"I was
a little rusty and I wanted to get
my rounds in," said Kauffman, now
19-1 (15 KO). "I wish I had a little
longer to train so I could have
stopped him."
Jason
Cintron continued to put distance
between himself and his only career
loss by defeating Maurice Chalmers
by unanimous decision. Cintron, 144,
put Chalmers down hard with a right
cross a minute into the first round
but the defensive minded Chalmers
held and survived. Cintron continued
to box effectively and land hooks
and right hands throughout that
solidified the victory. Cintron
moves to 12-1 (3 KO) while Chalmers
drops to 7-10-1 (4 KO).
In
other action, super-middleweight
Farah Ennis of Philadelphia moved to
12-0 with a third round TKO of
Emmanuel Gonzalez. Featherweight Coy
Evans 7-0-1 (1 KO) of Philadelphia
won a unanimous decision over a game
Robert DaLuz. Allentown's Eluid
Torres raised his record to 3-1-2 (2
KO) with a third round knockout of
John Willoughby. Derrick Webster of
Glassboro, NJ moved to 5-0 (4 KO)
with a fourth round stoppage of Pete
Guthy.

What
About Me(han)???
Former
undisputed and two-time heavyweight champion Hasim
"The Rock" Rahman has this to say in reaction to
news that former heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev
will be facing Kali Meehan in an important showdown
with world-title implications: WHAT?!?
"I destroyed Kali
Meehan in four rounds at Madison Square Garden,"
growled Rahman. "Yes, it was in 2004, but he's only
gotten older since then and not only has he not
beaten anyone important since then, he hasn't even
fought anybody worth mentioning!"
Rahman (45-7-2, 36 KOs)
says he would love to step in and face Chagaev. "How
do you fight Kali Meehan for a shot at the title
when the guy who knocked him out is right here ready
to go?"
To compound the matter,
Meehan hasn't fought since August of 2008. "I got
nothing against Kali Meehan," continued Rahman, "but
both times he's stepped up in competition, he's been
stopped. I've been in huge fights with all the top
opponents. So how do you prepare for a title shot by
facing him?"
Rahman's promoter, Greg Cohen of The Empire, says
he'd be happy to bring Rahman out to Chagaev's home
base of Germany. "Rock will travel anywhere they
want to make this happen. No offense to Kali Meehan,
but it's insulting to boxing fans to call this a
major heavyweight fight. Hasim Rahman deserves this
fight a heck of a lot more than Kali Meehan, that's
for sure."

Martinez (44-2-2, 24 KOs), a native of Argentina who

known to the boxing world in 2007 by knocking out
Saul Roman (27-2) in the fourth round of their WBC

his last fight, he lost a highly-disputed 12-round

Grano out
to avenge vs Mark “Oak Tree” Brown
February. 15, 2010
Popular
heavyweight prospect Tony “TNT” Grano values
avenging his lone pro loss more than money and fame,
which is precisely why he desperately wanted a
rematch against Mark “Oak Tree” Brown, headlining
the March 12th “Brace For Impact” card, presented by
Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports,
Inc. (CES), in Fox Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino
in Mashantucket, Conn.
Grano (16-1-1, 13 KOs),
a 2005 U.S. National Championships winner and
National Golden Gloves Tournament runner-up, has won
two in a row since losing to Brown (15-2, 7 KOs),
who overcame two knockdowns to stop Grano in the
eighth round of their WBF All-Americas title bout
Sept. 27, 2008.
Coming off his
sensational, nationally-televised knockout of
previously-undefeated prospect Travis Kaufman (18-0)
last September, Grano had clearly targeted Brown,
rather than a top 20 rated opponent, and CES gave
him the opportunity for revenge.
“For me, personally,”
Grano explained, “I wanted this rematch more than
any fight. Ranking-wise, I don’t need it because
I’ve already surpassed him (Brown), and my fight on
ShoBox (vs. Kaufman) showed everybody it (fight vs.
Brown) was a fluke. No excuses, though, I’m not like

VALUEV PROPOSES ‘60-40’ Split VS KLITCHKO
King and Sauerland Event Make Counter Offer on
Behalf of Nikolai Valuev
To Face WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko
Don King Productions and Sauerland Event have
countered K2 Promotions latest offer to former
two-time World Boxing Association heavyweight
champion Nikolai “Giant Russian” Valuev (50-2, 34
KOs) to face World Boxing Council heavyweight
champion Vitali Klitschko (39-2, 37 KOs) with a deal
calling for a 60-40 percentage split.
“They approached us
with a $1 million offer for Valuev to face Vitali,
and Sauerland Event and I told them we would like $4
million for the fight,” King said. “Now they’ve come
back to us with a $2 million guarantee. We countered
with a 60-40 split of revenue.
“K2 is making the money
more important than the attraction. They are
promoting the money while I promote the attraction.
The attraction recoups your investment and leads to
profit. People-wise and money-wise, this is the way
you have to think—and people-wise is the most
important.”
King said he and
Sauerland Event, on behalf of Valuev, are convinced
that K2 Promotions, on behalf of Vitali Klitschko,
are focusing on obtaining Valuev for the lowest
amount of money when they should be focusing on
auctioning the ability to host the event and
television rights to the highest bidders.
“If K2 Promotions
auctions off the rights to become the host site for
this extravaganza as well as television rights to
Germany, Russia and Ukraine, we believe that alone
will bring in over $10 million,” King said. We are
so confident in this that we are willing to risk
guaranteed money in favor of 40 percent of the
revenue stream, which we believe will bring team
Valuev $4 million or more.”
Feb.
12, 2010 —Team Sauerland and Hennessy Sports are
proud to announce that the Super Six World Boxing
Classic tournament group stage 2 fight between WBC
Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch and the
Viking Warrior Mikkel Kessler will take place at the
MCH Messecentre, Herning in Denmark on the 24th
April 2010. The fight will be televised in the
United States on SHOWTIME® beginning at 9 p.m.
ET/PT. In Denmark, the fight will be broadcast on
Viasat. Hennessy Sports will be announcing the UK TV
broadcaster over the next week.
The two
superstars lock horns in the second round of this
unprecedented boxing tournament,with Kessler eager
to make up for his opening loss against Andre Ward.
The WBC Champ Carl Froch comes off a split decision
victory over Andre Dirrell. “With the support of my
great Danish fans, I will defeat Carl Froch and
become world champion again,” Kessler said. “The
atmosphere at MCH Herning is incredible. I only have
the best of memories of the venue. The TKO victory
over Perdomo last September confirmed my place in
the Super Six. After a bad start, I am now out for a
knock-out and the first three points..”
Froch is concerned that
the date change will affect his travelling fans. “I
am upset for my fans with the change of date but
this has been unpreventable due to scheduling
issues. I just hope that my fans will understand
this change and will still come in their thousands
to support me in Herning.
The WBC champion is
convinced he will defend his title in spectacular
fashion. “I am looking to be the first fighter to
take Mikkel Kessler out before the final bell. I
have gone to Jermain Taylor´s backyard and defended
my belt and I am more than happy to do the same with
Kessler. As the Champion I will prove that I can
fight and beat the best anywhere.”
In September 2009,
Kessler defended his WBA Title with a fourth-round
stoppage of mandatory challenger Gusymr Perdomo. A
sell-out crowd of 6,250 fans raised the roof to
support Denmark´s national hero. 90 percent of the
tickets were gone within three hours after the start
of the sale. Kalle Sauerland expects tickets to sell
even faster this time out. “I know that the Danish
fight fans will rally behind Mikkel and support him
in the most important fight of his life,” Sauerland
said. “His career is on the line. But with 10,000
fans behind him – the MCH will provide a bigger
arena this time out – I will be expecting Mikkel to
collect 3 points and the WBC belt from Froch.

Antonio Barrera, Pauli Ayala, Wayne McCullough,
Junior Jones, Carlos Hernandez, Jesus Chavez, Guty
Espada, Jr. (twice), Daniel Zaragoza and Kevin
Kelly. Alfaro has defeated world champions Prawet
Singwancha and DeMarcus Corley.

Also slated to fight on
this explosive card is the best kept secret in the
heavyweight division, El Paso’s undefeated NABA
title-holder David “Nino” Rodriguez (32-0, 30 KOs),
in a Special Heavyweight Attraction.
Marco
“Captain” Huck (27-1, 20 KOs) will return to the
ring on March 13.
The WBO Cruiserweight Champion will defend his title
against American challenger Adam Richards (23-2, 15
KOs) in Berlin´s Max-Schmeling-Halle.
It
will be Huck´s second defence of the belt he won in
August 2009 with a points victory over Victor Emilio
Ramirez. “I am thrilled to defend my title in
Berlin,” Huck said. “It will be the first time I
enter the Max-Schmeling-Halle as a world
champion.
I certainly want to please my home fans. I think I
have made a lot of progress in the past months and I
am eager to put on another exciting performance on
March 13.”
Huck comes off a points win over tough challenger
Ola Afolabi. Right now, he is shaping up in Palm
Springs. Coach Ulli Wegner has moved training camp
to California where King Arthur Abraham will take on
Andre Dirrell in the second round of the Super Six
tournament on March 6. “It will be a busy month for
us but Arthur and Marco have been doing very well in
practice,” Wegner said. “I am sure we will be
successful.”

another Ugandan, Festus Omondi, in the fifth round

FIGHT REPORT
IT WAS A KNOCKOUT
WEEKEND ON GFL
GoFightliveTV Press Release - February 8,
2010
This
past weekend two big boxing events on the east coast
took place and the action was as hot inside the ring
as it was cold outside. Despite blizzard conditions,
crowds in Philadelphia and Newark saw two incredible
nights of boxing that started out on Friday from The
Legendary Blue Horizon in Philadelphia where USBA
Jr. Middleweight champion Derek “Pooh” Ennis scored
a fifth round stoppage over Edwin Vazquez.
The next night in
Newark, New Jersey, former Light Heavyweight and
Cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek scored a
unanimous decision victory over former U.S. Olympian
Jason Estrada in Adamek’s second start as a
Heavyweight. That bout was fought before an
astonishing crowd of over 10,000 fans in the
Prudential Center in Newark.
Both great events were
streamed live and are now available on-demand on
www.gofightlive.tv
In
the main event, USBA Jr. Middleweight champion Derek
“Pooh” Ennis tuned up for a spring title defense by
dropping Edwin Vazquez twice in round five with a
vicious body assault to score a knockout at 1:26 of
that round in their scheduled eight round non title
clash.
Ennis showed tremendous
hand speed and clearly worked the body behind a
solid jab. Vazquez showed a lot of heart and
determination as he would not only mock Ennis but
try to start some offense for himself.
In round five, Ennis
dropped Vazquez with a blistering left to the body
and moments later he did the same thing to the other
side of Vazquez’ body with the right and the fight
called off.
In one of the most
anticipated undercard bouts, Former World Junior
Amateur champion Joey Dawejko of Philadelphia needed
just forty-seven seconds to dispose of Ricardo
Johnson.
Dawejko landed a
perfect counter right hand that thrilled the crowd
that was heavily supporting the nineteen year old
from the Tacony section of town.
Some
are calling it controversial; some think the right
decision was rendered; now you can be the judge as
former Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight champion
Tomasz Adamek battled former U.S. Olympian in a an
action filled Heavyweight bout that had a crowd of
over 10,000 fans on the edge of their seats at the
Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
It was a close knit
battle where both combatants had their moments. But
it was Adamek who gained the unanimous decision win
and he may now be in position for an April 24th
showdown with former world title challenger Chris
Arreola.
Estrada was irate at
the decision and now the fans all over the world
will be able to give their opinion when they order
this terrific Heavyweight scrap.
Fans can also witness a
terrific three fight undercard that was headlined by
undefeated New York based Middleweight, Peter “Kid
Chocolate” Quillin make his return to the squared
circle when he takes on veteran Fernando Zuniga.
Two of
New Jersey’s better undefeated prospects in
Middleweight Patrick Majewski and Dennis “Mamma’s
Boy” Douglin were impressive in separate bouts.
FIGHT REPORT
Valero
Beats DeMarco
In a sterling performance, Edwin Valero of Venezuela
improved to 27-0 with 27 knockouts and retained the
World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight title with a
dominant ninth-round TKO over WBC interim
titleholder Antonio DeMarco (23-2-1, 17 KOs) of
Tijuana, Mex., Saturday in the main event on
SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXIN...G on SHOWTIME®. Also,
world-ranked welterweight Carlos Abregu of Salta,
Argentina, upped his record to 29-0 (23 KOs) with a
clear-cut, 10-round unanimous decision over
Miami-based Colombian Richard Gutierrez (24-4, 14
KOs) in the co-feature at Arena Monterrey.
In
front of an exuberant crowd of 10,123 predominantly
Adamek Fans, Tomasz Adamek defeated Jason Estrada in
a 12 Round decision last night, to retain the IBF
Heavyweight International Heavyweight title. The
official scores were 115-113, 116-112 and 118-110,
all in favor of Adamek.
“If everyone in this
room were completely honest with themselves you
would all admit that I got robbed. I mean I got
played. I might as well have had a gun pointed to my
head said Estrada” “At best I give Adamek three of
the twelve rounds. I seriously think the last judge
doesn’t need to judge anymore.” “Yeah I’m angry. I
fought my a_ _ off. I trained harder than I ever
have. I was in the best shape I’ve ever been in.
People talked about me possibly running out of gas,
but I never did. All he (Adamek) did was run.”
“It was the best Jason
Estrada I’ve ever seen in my life said Adamek. He
was 50 percent better today, than he when he fought
a top three heavyweight like Aleksander Powietkin.
Quick, with a good defense and a very hard head. It
was extremely difficult to locate precise punches,
because of his defense. Maybe, I should have use
more than three punches combination, maybe risk a
little more? I wanted to do it, but my trainer
Andrzej Gmitruk was telling me all the time in the
corner to be more boxer than puncher, avoid his
punches first, then use different temp to throw him
of his strategy. It was another test in heavyweight
division, versus very difficult to fight boxer. “
“I have couple of words for those who are saying
that I cannot fight Arreola because he is a much
better puncher than Estrada. First of all every
fight is different, and anyone who knows about
boxing can say “Estrada hit him, but Arreola will do
the same, and harder”. We don’t know that. Maybe it
will be easier for me to avoid punches from Arreola,
and maybe it will be easier for me to hit him! We
just don’t know, but won’t it be interesting to
see…“
Tomasz
Adamek - “I never underestimate anyone, ever.
This is boxing; you have to be prepared every time
because you can lose not only the fight but also
your health. I know what’s at stake on Saturday –
for me and for Jason.”
“I’m always asked if I
feel worthy to be in the heavyweight division and my
answer always is – just watch me fight and you’ll
know the answer. I don’t expect anybody to respect
me because I was champion in two other weight
classes – just enjoy what you see when I’m in the
ring. I did not lose any strength as compared to
being a light heavyweight or cruiser weight.
Contrary – fighting at my natural weight helped me
be a better boxer. I expect to weigh around 222
pounds for the fight. That’s natural weight and
power, zero loss of energy.”
“Mine will be a great
mix of European and American style boxing because of
my two trainers – Roger Bloodworth and Andrzej
Gmitruk.“
“Jason is a very
unorthodox fighter for this weight class, buy I
always believed that no matter who I’m fighting
against, it is up to me if I win or lose. I know his
strengths; I’m sure he thinks he knows my
weaknesses. But whatever we are saying now makes no
difference whatsoever. You can prove yourself in
only one way – by winning. And this is exactly what
I intend to do on Saturday. Don’t blink, don’t miss
a second”. “I will win.”
Jason Estrada –
“Funny thing is when I was playing video games as a
light heavyweight I was always playing as Tomasz
Adamek. Loved his style and I still love what he did
in light heavy and cruiserweight division. But this
is different story, he’s among big boys now and it
will be over his head to fight people like me.
Experience, ring ability – everything is on my side.
He’s making a big error thinking that beating aging
Golota makes him a good heavyweight. Not at all.”
“I also understand that
he has to say the things he’s saying – about putting
me on canvas, talking about other fights after
fighting me. He has to believe it, but believing and
doing it are two different things.”
“This was my best training camp ever – by far. More
than 8 weeks of very hard work, no injuries, no
problems. I’m in my prime, I have to prove this now
and help Adamek to fight Steve Cunningham again – as
a cruiserweight. After this fight he will be
finished in my division. I will prove that those are
not just words this coming Saturday.”
Maurice
Harris Going back to the future
Press
Release - Feb. 5, 2010
Veteran
heavyweight Maurice “Sugar Moe” Harris, inactive for
the previous 26 months, recently returned to the
ring (Jan. 29) in Albuquerque, impressively winning
a 6-round unanimous decision (60-54, 60-54, 58-56)
against battle-tested Billy “The Kid” Zumbrun.
The 33-year-old Harris
(21-14-2, 10 KOs), winner of the “2002 Thunderbox
Heavyweight Tournament,” had fought only four times
in the past seven years due to his
promotional/managerial problems. His comeback is
under the banner of his new promoter, Boxing 360.
“I had a lot of rust to
work off,” New Jersey native Harris said. “I did
what I had to do to win, getting in the rounds and
not looking for the knock out. He’s a strong guy
with a hard head. I shook him a couple of times, but
he kept his left hand high, and it was tough to hit
him solid.
“I needed the work. I’m
going to stay busy because that’s the philosophy of
my promoter, Boxing 360. We’re taking it slow; no
rush getting to the top. Being with Boxing 360 is
like night and day compared to my old promoters.”
In 2002, Harris knocked
out previously unbeaten and future world
title-holder Sergey Lyakhovich (16-0) in the ninth
round, earning Harris a slot in that November’s
“Thunderbox” tournament, in which he captured the
$100,000 winner’s purse by out-pointing Gerald
Nobles, Israel Garcia and Anthony Thompson,
respectively, in 3-round matches during the same
night of boxing.
Maurice’s up-and-down
career includes victories against David Izon, Jimmy
Thunder and Jeremy Williams, as well as Harris going
the distance with world champions Larry Holmes and
Chris Byrd.
“It felt good getting
in the ring again,” Maurice concluded. “I felt good,
considering the jet lag and high altitude, but
overall I’m happy with my performance. Watch-out
heavyweights, I’m coming.”

Scheduled for the
Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, on 3rd April, the rematch
arrives some 17 years after the original bout where
a youthful, flashy & brilliant Roy Jones outpointed
a rather ‘green’ Bernard Hopkins back in '93 in a
clash for the vacant IBF middleweight title.
Since that bout both
fighters have gone on to establish themselves as
future hall-of-famers. Jones has been up & down the

Grano-Brown
rematch headlines Brace For Impact”
Press
Release - Feb. 2, 2010
The rematch between
heavyweights Tony “TNT” Grano and Mark “Oak Tree”
Brown headlines the March 12 pro boxing card, “Brace
For Impact,” presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic
Sports and Entertainment, Inc. (CES), in Fox Theater
at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn.
Brown (15-2, 7 KOs)
overcame two knockdowns to stop Grano, fighting out
of Hebron (CT), in the eighth round of their WBF
All-Americas title bout Sept. 27, 2008.
Grano (16-1-1, 13 KOs
), a 2005 U.S. National Championships winner and
National Golden Gloves Tournament runner-up, has won
two in a row since suffering his lone loss as a pro.
The popular power-puncher is coming off of a
sensational, nationally-televised knockout of
previously-undefeated prospect Travis Kaufman (18-0)
last September. Brown’s eight-fight win streak was
snapped last June on a short-notice fight when he
lost to world-title challenger Fred Oquendo.
“Grano-Brown was an
exciting fight and we’re very happy to be promoting
their rematch March 12,” CES president Jimmy
Burchfield said. “Both of these heavyweights are
capable of putting their opponent to sleep at any
moment, so we’re advising fans not to leave their
seats or look around the venue during the main
event. We’re also putting together an explosive card
to support this great heavyweight match. CES has
been promoting shows at Foxwoods since it opened and
we’re all excited to be there once again for ‘Brace
For Impact.’ A lot is at stake for Grano-Brown with
the winner positioning himself for a major fight.”
Tickets for “Brace For

BERNARD HOPKINS AND
ROY JONES IS ON
Promoter PR: February 1, 2010.
After 17 years the wait
is over as sure-fire future Hall of Famers Bernard
"The Executioner" Hopkins and Roy "The Terminator"
Jones Jr. collide in a long awaited rematch that
will add the final chapter to their 17-year rivalry.
The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones II is set for
Saturday, April 3 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center
in Las Vegas, Nev. The bout will be broadcast live
on pay-per-view beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
The fighters will
participate in a press tour with stops in New York
and Los Angeles next Tuesday and Wednesday, February
9 and 10, respectively.
Hopkins (50-5-1, 32
KOs) and Jones (54-6, 40 KOs), two of boxing's most
decorated and recognizable fighters who have given
fans more than two decades worth of brilliant ring
memories, will put it all on the line and leave no
doubts as to who gets the bragging rights.
"A rematch with Roy has been in the back of my mind
for a long time and it's finally going to happen,"
said Hopkins. "I have accomplished a lot in my
career since that night in Washington, DC in 1993,
and I am going to end this thing between me and Roy
once and for all."
"We're giving the fans what they want to see. They
deserve this fight and why not supply the fans with
what they demand?" said Jones. "Now I can finally
terminate the Executioner once and for all. My new
nickname for this fight will be - The Terminator."

MADDALONE FIGHTS
ON
On Saturday February
6th, heavyweight fan favorite, Vinny Maddalone
(32-6, 23) will get the weekend fireworks started
early when he takes on Dominique Alexander (19-7-1,
9KO) in an eight round heavyweight match-up at the
Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, NJ.
The show, promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing,
and broadcast live on GoFightLive.tv, is headlined
by welterweight prospect, Atlantic City's own,
Shamone 'The Truth" Alvarez (20-2, 11KO) taking on
knockout artist Alexis Camacho (17-2, 16KO).
The Queens native
Maddalone is no stranger to the bright lights of
Atlantic City, having fought there four times
before, one of which was named ESPN's 2004 Fight of
the Year.
"I'm excited to be
returning to A.C.," says Maddalone. "There is a lot
of fight history in this city, so it's extra special
for me anytime I have the opportunity to fight
there."
Maddalone is coming off
a hard fought decision loss back in December to
former two-time cruiserweight champion, Jean Marc
Mormeck. The fight which took place in Mormeck's
native France, saw Maddalone press the action and
take the fight head on to Mormeck from the opening
bell. Mormeck as well as Maddalone , is known for
being a banger, but it was evident from the first
time Mormeck felt Maddalone's power he wanted no
part in the brutal exchanges and began circling and
boxing from the outside.
"I was surprised when
he started moving like he did," stated Maddalone.
"From the tapes I have seen of him he usually stood
right there in front of you, but then again that was
at cruiserweight. I could tell right away in the
first round when I hit him that I could hurt him."
In what was an exciting
fight, that brought the sold out crowd to their feet
multiple times throughout the contest, Maddalone
went on to lose by decision. Although Maddalone
lost, as was the case when he fought in Europe in
2008; he dropped another hard fought decision loss
to undefeated top five rated heavyweight Denis
Boytsov; he further added onto his fan base, a base
that has now begun to stretch worldwide.
"I'm a throwback
fighter. Anytime I am in that ring you know you are
going to see an exciting fight, and the people in
Europe, as do my fans here in the U.S, appreciate
that. Fighting is my life, it's what I love to do,
and come February 6th you can expect nothing less
out of me. As I do every time I step into that ring,
I am going to leave it all on the line and give the
fans something to be excited about."
A win in Atlantic City,
could set up another trip for Maddalone back to
Europe. There have been talks of Maddalone fighting
on the undercard of Mormeck's next fight, and if
both win, Maddalone- Mormeck II could be on the
horizon.
"I would love another
opportunity to face Mormeck. It was an exciting
fight that the fans loved, and want to see again,
but first things first, I must take care of business
this Saturday.

QUOTES
It's my experience, in
40 years of boxing, either you're going to be a fighter or you're
going to be a politician. You can't be both. You going to be a
politician you better leave that boxing ring alone. I'll tell you
that right now. You have to be a successful fighter. All you have to
do to do is be a fighter. You
cannot be a fighter, a politician singer, a belly dancer, all the
stuff you are trying to be. It’s not going to work in the boxing
ring. All we know is fighting. That's what we know. That's what we
live for. .
